On 19 July I downloaded a porn video, which I never normally do, and I don't know what made me want to do it. I'm using a Samsung tablet powered by Android.

I noticed that the video loaded onto the device memory not the SD card, so as the storage on my tablet is getting low I tried to delete it immediately, along with another video (about tomatoes) which I downloaded a few months ago. Both videos failed to delete. I tried moving them to the SD card to see if I could delete them from there, and if I remember rightly the new one disappeared but then reappeared a few moments later.

At this point I realized something bad was happening so I switched off the tablet and when I turned it on again the contents of the SD card had vanished—mainly photos which were backed up and free audiobooks off Librivox. I hadn't had any malware warning signal, which I've had once or twice in the past. It did occur to me that malware might not be the cause. I quite enjoy editing and fiddling with my photos and I know that excessive editing can shorten the life of the SD card. It and the tablet are nearly eight years old now, which is about a century in tech years.

I've been looking for advice on what to do next but all the Q&As I can find tend to be beyond my limited grasp of computers (they also tend to be written in Japangish, which doesn't help). These are my main worries:

▪ Is the coast clear now, or is the Bad Thing still there in the background, waiting to strike again?
▪ Looking at "my files" I can see a download listed for 19 July but I haven't dared to open it in case I open Pandora's box again.
▪ Previously when I did a Knox security scan the little scanning symbol appeared in the top left corner and stayed there until I dismissed it, but now it vanishes straight after the scan. Is that ominous?

Anyone else been in this position? Any insights would be much appreciated.

P.S. I also own a laptop which I almost never use. It's switched off and the two devices are not synced, so as far as I'm aware the tablet doesn't know that the laptop exists.

P.P.S. I know there's a wealth of security systems out there, but while trawling for advice this one caught my eye: https://www.malwarebytes.com/for-home Can anyone here recommend it? It seems quite affordable. It has a user forum which I'm currently rummaging through, but as the problem is porn related I thought JUB might be a better first port of call.

I used the free version of Malwarebytes for quite some time and I found it very good.
