I was just watching the movie "Mambo Italiano" and they tried to show how us Italians view homosexuality, so I was curious how other cultures view the gay lifestyle. I know certain cultures are strongly against it, like Jamaicans. How is homosexuality viewed in your culture? ex. Hispanic, Asian etc.

I'm from Israel. Homosexuality is not tolerated in form or fashion.
Of course there are gays and lesbians in the country, but it is really really behind closed doors and not discussed.
I came to the states 8 years ago, and after much thought, I came out to my parents. They have accepted it as well as could be expected but it's a big hush hush thing to my parents friends.

My folks are very proud of me, and support me in most of the decisions and I really admire their strength and acceptance of something I know they struggle with :=D:

well, hi to all, in Greece it is something strange too...in big cities (not many here) is better...but in medium cities it is like something very secret...you do it and you say nothing for it...you turn on to be a straight guy in the rest of the day...i really believe it is rather stupid...and not to mention relationships or cohabitation with a guy...not here...of course in the most populated cities things are better and they are improving year by year...but even there you are always inside a race of changing partners...try new ones...a continuous struggle for sex...!!! I really do not feel very proud of that...
Feel really nice to respond in this forum (first time)...
Keep on all of you
xxx Spyros ;)

British culture diesn't really give a damn.

I don't know what you mean by Asian culture, cos that just conjures up countless cultures.

The United States is so diverse.it seems what will play in New York will not be tolerated in a rual state or in smaller towns.
We are backward to most of Europe I think but hopefully we are catching up in a more positive attitude

Culture is like Law. It varies from state to state, city to city. By the same token, why is smoking a joint a misdeameanor in LA and a felony in Atlanta?

In Australia it sits between the U.S and Western Europe. In bigger cities it is not a big deal, but in smaller places it is still a bit iffy. We do have widespread anti-dicrimination laws, so if there are real problems you have legal recoursce. It won't make people love you tho.

Spaniards are one of the most "easy-going" people in the world, so that they can accept virtually anything based on real life more than in ideals, which also includes a regime based on fundamentalist catholicism imposed by the corresponding strong real authority, all that meaning they are also one of the most fickle people on earth.
And when they surrender to idealism they get all messed up and the result is a big fucking up of everything, from the Quixote to the Second Republic, and who knows...

In the U.S. it's accepted in big cities, in resort towns and in college towns. In rural areas and very small towns it is less accepted.

I haven't found that to be the case. I live in a very small town in a rural area and I can assure you people have no problem with me being gay.

Frankly I'd be much more worried about getting beat up if I wandered into the wrong neighborhood of LA or New York.
