Does Disney Channel really prohibit its stars, singers and actors from announcing that they're gay in any way shape or form after having signed with it? I heard about this in the grapevine. And it turns out, if one were to observe, that it does seem to be true: there is literally no one on the Disney Channel known to be gay. Sure, there are rumors being spread around the net about certain singers and actors (e.g. Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney, Frank Galasso, etc., etc.). However, if any of these singers and actors being gossipped about is gay, non of them is actually out! At all! I mean, since when has one seen an actor known to be gay on any show or program on Disney?

And, here's what else I've heard from the grapevine: if one was to be gay, he or she is not allowed to speak of it even 5 yeras after he or she left Disney. Is this true as well? Why?

It's because they are still prejudice(If this rumor is true) and they are scared that they will lose viewers if they had a gay actor on their channel.

But Jesse Mcartney has had a girlfriend, and so as Zac Efron, so I don't see any reason to believe they are gay. And also...Who Cares!!

That is a rumor I am not sure I believe. I think a lot of research needs to be done on that if we are to know if it is truth or not.

Isn't Disney one of the more gay friendly companies of the world? They were one of the first to give same sex partners benefits and they always have gay days at the parks even though they have been the vicitms of boycotts by several religious right organizations! Correct me if I am wrong!

poppy: Don't feed the urban legend by rationalizing it!

That said: Almost every young male star has been rumored to be gay at some point or other, and Disney has a lot of them, so it makes sense that there would be some sort of urban legend about Disney boys.

Outside of possibly Lucas Grabeel, almost all of the boys have had girlfriends at some point...

Considering the actors in movies/tv shows are suppose to be role models, i'm pretty sure disney wont allow them to come out of the closet if they're gay. If any of them ever came out of the closet, i'm pretty sure all those over protected parents and/or closed minded parents wouldnt allow their kids to watch the disney channel anymore.

Now see, that is what is so sad. Disallowing someone to be a role model because they won't hide the fact that they are gay. It borderlines on pathetic.

I don't know. Let's wait until five years after Kyle XY and ask him.

My guess.

1. Anybody on the Disney Channel is being promoted to some pretty young kids.
2. Disney Channel probably doesn't want any of their stars linked to anything severely "adult" in the news. Wild partying, drunk driving, a string of torrid affairs, what have you.
3. We're still in an era where being homosexual plus being famous equals news, although that's starting to decline. Just being gay would make the news, and be something rather "adult", and would cause some problems.

It's not true. I have friends who are contracted under Disney and they have some annoying stipulations (for instance: Disney has first rights to any artistic idea you have. If you are walking down the hall and start humming a new tune, Disney can use that tune in their next movie. ), but there is nothing in the contract about homosexuality.

Disney is VERY gay friendly. Over half the male employees are gay it seems. Club Mannaquin in Downtown Disney has a unofficial gay night (Thursday last I was told by employees that I know that work there). Its one of the most gay friendly companies to work for under the parks side but I am not sure of the "celebrity" side.
