OK guys not too sure what the problem is, but here goes an explanation of events. One day I was playing the video game civilization 4 on my computer, in the middle of it my cursor stopped moving, no clue why. Couldnt see the cursor move at all, but the mouse was still able to click on things it was sill able to close windows and open programs and the such, so it was working. The cursor just stuck in one place. I've tried everything under the sun, someone mentioned to me about the resolution change from the game to the regular screen, but it's happening while i'm still playing the game. I've tried a wireless mouse and a regular hard wired mouse, does the same thing. I've run antivirus after antivirus and they've found nothing, I've run spyware, and it's found nothing. I can have endless other programs open, and some times it will happen and some times it wont.

the computer has windows xp, it's got an AMD Athlon 2500+, 1 gig of ram, a 128 mb video card. If there are any explanations please, help. I've been on the phone for over an hour and cant find anything new.

Err, i'm a little confused... Did the problem resolve itself once you restarted your computer (i certainly hope you did that). Or are you saying this is an ongoing problem whenever you play CivIV? In which case, what version of CivIV are you playing? The original? Warlords? Beyond the Sword? Do you have the most recent patch for whatever version you are playing?

If you still have the game open with the frozen cursor (which i hope you don't) then there's nothing you can do to save the current situation. At the very least you're going to have to cut your losses if you haven't saved your game, and restart the computer... If it isn't an ongoing problem every time you play CivIV like i asked above, then that should resolve your problem.

P.S.
Cursor freeze isn't going to be a virus or spyware issue, they have other things in mind other than freezing your cursor.

this sometimes happens to me when windows is doing some heavy swapping at the hard drive, but usually the cursor acts normal after that again.
so do i get this right .. your cursor is still "stuck" even after a reboot?

The cursor works after a reboot, but it stays frozen after I leave the game. Some times if I'm installing or removing a program it'll freeze then too. It's the oddest thing, and I dont know what to do I'm at whits end, I've tried everything. They couldnt come up with anything and I couldnt come up with anything.

have a look in the game option .. can you somewhere enable/disable the hardware cursor?

I could if I could get to that point. lol Its not just in the game tough, sometimes it will happen when I'm using other programs too.

I just tried starting it in regular mode, and the cursor just no longer moves at all, my start up is very limited, so I have no other clue. I've done the msconfig, and now I'm lost.

I think I've narrowed it down to the video card, it seems that every time the video card is put under any type of pressure, the cursor stops moving. What is my next step? I'm trying to update the drivers, but I dont know that that will fix it.

Not gonna be your ACTUAL video card, may be the drivers or DX though. You never really answer my questions, so i'll pose them again.

What version of Civ4?
Do you have the most recent patch for that version?
Have you updated your video drivers to the latest version?
Have you updated DX to the most recent version?
What kind of mouse are you using (primary)? If it requires specific drivers (ala Logitech Setpoint, etc...) do you have the most recent version?
You mentioned a cordless mouse, is it Bluetooth? If so, what kind of Bluetooth hub are you using?

OK, first question, I have no clue which version it is, I believe it's the original, I got it for christmas, and no longer have the case for the game.
Second, I just reinstalled the entire game after uninstalling it, thinking that was the problem, so no I dont have the newest patches. But I think I've come to the conclusion that it's not the game entirely.
Third, yup, just updated the video card drivers to the latest version. The card is a GE Force 5200.
Fourth, I guess I have the latest DX, however I dont know, I could try downloading that next and going through that.
Fifth, I just went and bought a plug and play mouse goes right into the specific mouse port, I was using wireless, but uninstalled it because I thought that was the problem, and it turned out not to be.
Sixth, no it wasnt blue tooth.

I dont know why but now the computer it's self is going very slowly. I have no clue what is going on. I'm defragging it hoping that will help, but so far nothing.
