I thought this was appalling! :grrr::mad::grrr: Yet for sure, this is a real cute bear. WOOF!!! :drool:

However I just hate to see a nice sounding guy like this, in trouble just for being gay . . . especially for a guy that lives near Los Angeles, where being an openly gay teacher is not a big deal that it used to be 30 years ago.

This type of thing annoys me so much! these people who complain about this stuff are stupid, what kid want to look at their teachers FB anyway!? There is literally no harm done at all!

What a shame. If everything went down as reported, it sounds like he has an excellent case against the school district. If they wanted to pink slip him they would have done just that, but they did it right after giving him a hard time in response to a complaint.

Oh yeah and he's really hot too... :)

I don't know how it works in America, but over here in Australia, children and teachers aren't allowed to be 'friends' on facebook, for reasons like this, so what I'm saying is, are children allowed to be 'friends' with teachers in America? Cause if they aren't than how can they fire him for some photos?

Majere1427, I am not sure if we have some sort of national or state rule/law that children and teachers aren't allowed to be 'friends' on facebook. Yet reading the article, it states "An anonymous parent of a Charter Oak High student wrote a letter to school officials complaining that the pics were inappropriate. Stein was bitched out for them by his superiors, and immediately..." So I was unclear as to if the student and the teacher were FB friends. Yet I also wonder if that busybody anonymous parent went tolling to find that teacher's FB page, looking for something to get the teacher fired. As they say, it only takes one bad apple to cause trouble like this, even though that teacher has all of that love and support from his peers and students. This really does SUCK!!! :grrr::mad::grrr:

Majere, I'm curious - is there a law or a general policy from the Department of Education prohibiting this?
 
I am a professor, and there is no way that I would ever FB friends with a student.

The pics were benign, one of him eating a corn dog and the other of him with a drag queen.

If eating a corn dog and hanging out with an effeminate man is a crime then someone should immediately arrest Michelle Bachmann.

Professors generally avoid friending college students, unless they're looking to appear cool or are horndogs. I've found that professors are okay with friending you once you are done with their class and your grades are in, maybe like a semester afterwards.

I won't do it then either. In fact it is in my syllabus, "I will not accept Facebook friend requests from current or former students."
 
He definitely has a lawsuit. No job in the USA can fire you for being of certain sexual orientation.
