Helen Mirren adds Emmy to awards list

Helen Mirren wrapped up an amazing year of trophy collecting with a win at the Emmys on Sunday.
"It's been an incredible year, from about this time last year through the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. It was a pretty amazing year to have later on in one's life. It's very gratifying," the 62-year-old actress said.

Mirren won Sunday's Emmy for best actress in a TV miniseries or movie for "Prime Suspect: The Final Act (Masterpiece Theatre)."

She claimed an Oscar and Golden Globe for "The Queen" and more trophies in TV categories for "Elizabeth I" dating back to last year's Emmys.

After she collected her Emmy on Sunday she was congratulated by fellow winner Jeremy Piven.

"This is the closest I'll ever get to you," he said. "I'm honored to be in the same building with you."

"Oh, shut up," she replied playfully.

Ms. Mirren is one actress who deserves every accolade and every cent she earns...

The final prime suspect is worthy of all the awards under the sun. It was a great episode to an already acclaimed drama. Helen is and will always be my favourite actor. There's no limit to that womans talent and I hope she goes on to bigger and better roles.

I'm pretty down on awards shows, so didn't watch the Emmys - but - Hooray for Helen!!! - I do think she deserves every award she gets. I think she if fabulous!

Well, I was just about to say that Helen Mirren, along with Judi Dench, is a "class act". I'm not being disrespectful, but I don't think either of them use their titles much - but they are most definitely two of my favourite actresses .

They can play just about anything...and it is nice to see that ladies of their maturity can get the parts and command such enormous respect.

For the U.S. I would also have to point to Meryl Streep as having similar credentials...and closer to home, Cate Blanchett is well on the way to that level.
