Just finished watching this movie and I loved it...although it was quite dark and depressing. One of the saddest movies I have seen in a long time and Bjork was great in it. What did u think?

I watched it because Bjork was in it.
I was surprised by everything; in a good way.
A fantastic movie, with wonderfully real characters, and great acting, and and and!
Who knew!

But I can't watch to often because, as you said, it can be seen as a little depressing.

A strange movie, but engrossing. Terribly sad, though. Bjork was astonishing.

I kept on hearing about how shocking the ending was. I finally saw it one day, and regardless of being warned, I was still shocked.

Yeah it was really depressing but I loved it. I'm excited because Björk is going to be at the Austin City Limits festival this year. It's going to be fantastic!

This movie is amazing! but dammit it makes you angry lol...

The soundtrack is fantastic - New World especially!

I fell in love with this movie when it first came out. Like others have said I can't watch it too often. I love the soundtrack and the dancing sequences, they did a really good job. I was watching a behind the scenes of it and they shot the movie on over 100 mini cams to get all of the different angles without interrupting the actors and dancers. What a nightmare for the techs. Anyways I had no idea Bjork could act so well before watching this and it made me respect her so much more. I was incredibly saddened by the ending. It made my heart sink and gave me one of the worst feelings in the world. For a movie to be able to invoke such emotion in its audience is almost unbelievable now days. The only other movies that really affected me in this way was Dark Days and Schindlers List.

I really loved this movie too especially the fact that they do it in the style of a musical. They really used Bjork's talents to the fullest.

This movie is my all time favourite - but I can't either watch it too often. I have seen it 4 times - and I usually cry like a girl, which never happens when I watch movies. I really love this movie because it really touch my heart - that does not happen in regular Hollywood-movies... Have to watch it soon again...

I watched it on IFC a few nights ago, it was really really sad but also great. I cried at the end it was so sad. Bjork seemed crazy in it but from what I understand she's crazy anyway.

It's strange and funny, but I always have a negative attitude towards every Lars von Trier movie before I actually watch it. And I always, I mean always, get hooked like a puppy to (cum)bone when it ends. I guess it's in the way he easily "involves" me into the movie, the simple but strong message he sends, he perfectly thickens the plot and burst in brutality (almost always) by the end.
I mean, there's no better example than Dogville, it' done perfectly and I love it so much. The same is here with the Dancer in the Dark, the movie goes on and on, and you think it's OK, but nothin more than OK, and then bang, the last 20 minutes of the movie will totally distress you, disturb you to the bone. I really can't remember of a movie ending in more sadness and sorrow than this one, from the moment she's been taken to the execution place my throat was suffocating and I could cry a river.
Did I mention that Bjork is fascinating througout the whole film? No? Well she is. Plus, she's one of my favourite artists of all time (starting in the late 80's with the Sugarcubes, till today and her marvelous albums).

A friend gave me a loan of this movie and I tried to watch it last night but had to switch it off after about 30 minutes or so. It was like watching a bad home movie with shaky camera work and people out of camera shot that were supposed to be in camera shot. Nothing really happened in the first half hour either so I was rather bored.

I really don't get why Lars Von Trier is considered a good director? I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching another of his movies.
