I don't mean to depress people, but the thought of this has already gotten me depressed--even one month in advance. For those of us in (most of) the US, Daylight Saving Time ends four weeks from tonight. I usually get really depressed for a couple of weeks after that --until I adjust.

I wish we could stay in one time zone year round.

I LOVE this time of year. I can't wait to turn the clocks back. There's something magical about all of the changes in fall. The leaves are changing, the weather is changing, it gets dark earlier, everyone's mood is changing from the laziness of summer to the excitment of the holidays. What's not to love?

I also am looking forward..wait backward to daylight's savings time. That's one extra hour of much needed sleep for me! I actually end up feeling refreshed for that week.

Well--the darkness part.

But other than that I see what you mean. I always say that fall is my favorite time of year. I love the sweaters and the leaves. I love making soups and stews, and baking bread without overheating my house. But it seems like if we didn't have DST, we'd have all of that and the darkness wouldn't be so bad.

Without DST, it would just get dark earlier in the Summer, too.

I'm ready for DST to end now! It's dark now when I get up. I hate it. I want the extra hour of light in the morning now! DST lasts too long. I love in June. I'm over it in October.

^ I guess I meant to say that I'd rather have DST year-round. I realize that would mean less daylight in the mornings, but who cares if it's dark then? That's why we have coffee.

My understanding is that Daylight Saving Time was originally instituted during WWII to "help" the farmers. Could someone please explain how moving the clock back and forth "helps" anyone, especially the farmers. It's not like the cows have to set their alarms to be milked at 5:35 am...they get milked at dawn, regardless of what time it is! ](*,)

BTW, I fucking hate the whole idea!

It was initiated to create more daylight in the evening during war time. More can be done later if it stays light later.

I hate it. I wish they would decide on one time, and leave it the fuck along. It takes me about a month to adjust to the time change.

That makes about as much sense as my comment about the cows!

It's the opposite for me. I always enjoy the change going into the fall. Whereas the time change in the spring completely messes me up and I tend to get ultra moody. It will take me a couple of weeks to get that all sorted out.

It's just an hour on one day at 2:00 in the morning. It's not like they're asking you to suddenly convert to Japanese time.

"helps the farmers see the cows". Is that like hunting season? Farmers paint the word COW in BIG LETTERS on BOTH SIDES of the COW hoping that a hunter does not SHOOT it!

Next year DST is being extended by about a month. It will start 3 weeks earlier and end 1 week later: 2007 DST March 11 - November 4

I never liked DST. Especially in summer when it doesn't get dark until 10:00 pm; that's just not right; it's like living in Alaska. It's no longer (never has been) necessary. We only do it now because the majority of americans like having extra daylight to wash their SUVs and Lexus and to paint their white picket fences.

I can't wait!!!

But that's because we are coming into daylight saving down here. :)

DJ, I hate it too. I don't know if you know much about Indiana, but we didn't used to observe DST for about the last 35 years. (I remember it when I was very young) This is the first year Indiana has observed DST since, and it took me a couple of weeks to adjust. It was kind of like jet lag or something. Now I am going to have to adjust all over again. It was very nice to not have to worry about changing clocks, times, etc. The only difference was that some of the TV shows were on an hour earlier/later.
