Is that for a metal or white filling? I don't know how much I pay cos my insurance covers it and I never see the bill. I know white cost more though.
A SIMPLE amalgam filling will run anywhere from $130 to $165 here.
Bonding is more expensive and for porcelain you hand over your car title.
Even with top-of-the-line dental insurance I still have to come up with $257 out of pocket. I don't get it.
Medical and dental are two completely different things!! Often times physicians partner with insurance companies so that they can be on the provider list and receive patients.
Dentist on the other hand don't also do this. Some might be on your list but many do not sign with insurance companies because they would have to lower their rates and many feel like they are worth more than that. My dentist has a rate of around $400 per hour. Of course she doesn't bill like that but that is her goal production.
Crowns usually run around $1000 here and if the dentist has a crown milling machine the actual cost of the crown is around $50 for the block of ceramic. The cost of the machine is around $120,000 however!
Yes my dad had that done and even in Canada it is very expensive. He had almost 300 bucks out of pocket to pay but the costs were well over 2000..maybe 3000!!! Cost of growing old I guess...![]()

From April 1 2009, if you are not exempt from charges, you will pay one of the following rates for each course of treatment you receive:
Band 1 course of treatment
£16.50: This covers an examination, diagnosis (for example an X-ray), advice on how to prevent future problems, and a scale and polish if needed. Urgent treatment when you need to see a dentist immediately also costs £16.50.
Band 2 course of treatment
£45.60: This covers everything listed in band 1, above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to take out one or more of your teeth.
Band 3 course of treatment
£198: This covers everything listed in bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures or bridges.
These are the only dental charges your dentist will ask you to pay when you are having NHS treatment.
So, for example, an examination, diagnosis, and preventive advice will cost £16.50; an examination, diagnosis, preventive advice and one or more fillings will cost £45.60; and an examination, diagnosis, preventive advice, one or more fillings and one or more crowns will cost £198.00.
That seems to be the current trend... I can only imagine the student loans on that one!!The guy removing my wisdom teeth is an MD (and DDS)
