Deodorant vs. deodorant/antiperspirant together

Hello Everyone!

I keep hearing about how bad antiperspirant is for the body. I have taken this into consideration in the past and have tried many many many brands (Adidas, Old Spice, Dove, Arm & Hammer, Suave etc.) that offer just deodorant in a stick. Every time they broke my underarms out. Even Dove for men which is supposed to be one of the best products to buy. I am trying to use more and more all natural ingredients on my body and over all trying to take notice to what I am putting in and on my body.

Does anyone have any other options they use? Some of the "all natural" brands have antiperspirant in them and I am not sure if its the same as the store brands. A local grocery store has many healthy brands but they are PRICEY and I am not sure which ones are good or not.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you're normal, going without antiperspirant or deodorant is an excellent option.

I never use any, I just was my armpits and the rest of my body with soap in the morning and wear absorbent fabrics that don't stink excessively when they're exposed to a little sweat.

I wear cotton t-shirts that cover my armpits underneath dress shirts and the like.

Have you tried just plain old baking soda?

In the past I have used stick form of alum. The container shows No Aluminum Chlorohydrate. One brand you can find is Crystal Body Deodorant Stick.

You may want to see a dermatologist to determine the cause of your rash. The rash can have several sources:

1. Some people are allergic to antibacterial agents or fragrances that are in soaps and deodorants. Triclosan is an example of an ingredient that can cause a skin reaction in some people.
2. Sometimes there is an underlying skin condition like eczema or tinea corporis that causes the skin to be unusually sensitive. Application of antiperspirant or deodorant to these sensitive areas causes a local reaction. To resolve the problem, it is necessary to treat the underlying skin condition.
3. In the case of antiperspirants, the opening of the sweat glands can sometimes get blocked, causing a bumpy red rash called folliculitis. Again, the solution is to treat the underlying condition.

I cannot use the type which contains alcohol; it looks translucent and is soft. I use it once OK, but the second time it burns like the devil. BUT I can use the white type of deodorant stick which leaves a white powder. Most brands have both types. In the store, it take the cap off to make sure I am getting the white type.

Have you tried just plain old baking soda?

Yeah, baking soda works. So does baking powder. I prefer powder over soda.

Antiperspirants make me sweat more, so I avoid them.... which is hard, since that seems all some places stock.

I don't use either. I have stopped using fabric softeners also because it hinders a fabric's wicking abilities. Everything is fine.
