Depression is one of those things that is different for everyone. Some people respond well to counseling, others need medication. Most people generally have a variety of the two. They say that petting dogs helps as does exercise. Try all of those things and you'll eventually find one that works for you.

When I am depressed I purposefully isolate myself and the people that are important in my life know the signs and they know that my not contacting them has to do with me and nothing to do with them.

Does watch porn and wank it off work ?
That's what i do often, wank if off. :)

Well develop and use your social circle (ie. friends) to your advantage. Counseling is a good idea also. Drugs are as usual a last resort or at best an adjunct therapy.

If you like dogs, find a a shelter to volunteer in or some other place to volunteer in with people where you socialize more. Helping others or doing hobbies you like really distracts you from the same pattern of thought that causes you depressive moods. I had bouts of depressive stages that I manage to deal with through changing or expanding circle of people that I interact with. I also volunteer playing music at nursing homes on weekends with a small band which really changes my spirit.

I too am just learning how much depression hurts, physically as well as mentally. If you feel it's lasting longer than necessary, seek professional help.

Go find a yoga class, and just do it once. I bet you will find yourself out of your depression for the time being. If you are open minded, the practice of being mindful and accepting of your problem can really help (i.e., noticing that your depression over your breakup, accepting that this is how you feel, and letting it go). Easier said than done, but through the process (such as in yoga), it's possible to isolate your problem and treat it as something separate from your body rather than as part of your identity (I have depressing thoughts vs. I AM a depressed person). When you separate from your problem, it can suddenly become that much lighter for you.

I'm training to be a therapist/counselor, and I recommend seeking this kind of help if you are unable to get out of it on your own (by creating your own distractions, talking with friends, participating in activities). Your problem is probably much more detailed than what you have described, so having that non-judging, open person to help you explore and find your way out could really help.

I agree with what is being said in this thread about medication: if this is an isolated incident and not something that permeates through your life on a cyclical basis, then medication is going to be overkill. From what you are describing, it seems to be a situational problem and not a mental health one, although this is up to you to decide.

Im no doctor but ive had problems with depression. For me it was medication - it was amazing!

exercise is supposed to help as its cbt.

speak to your doctor though.
