Have just watched the last episode on 4th season... and what the fuck was that... 5 years later??? and... excuse me!?!?!? Susan with someone else?!?!?!? Aw and Gabi with 2 fat kids!?!?!?!?!? What The Fuck!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? i know too much fuck but i just cant stop fucking.... that is.... madness!!!!

All this was reported in the US entertainment press long before it aired here.

Marc Cherry, the creator and executive producer of DH, said he felt he had done everything with the characters in the "present" that he could.

By pushing things ahead five years, he felt the characters would have moved on and he could create stories about their "new" lives.

There will be flashbacks next season to show how the characters got to where they are in five years.

He mentionrd this week in an interview that all the children will be appearing in the flashbacks.

I think they are shaking things up - getting more teen agers on the show. I refuse to judge it before it actually happens. Let's let them shoot the thing first before we praise or condemn it shall we? or is this Aintitcoolnews all of a sudden? lol

i don't see anything wrong with jumping ahead 5 years, one tree hill jumped ahead, that show is still great

How do you figure the development is erased by a five year jump into the future?

Other shows have done it, and it's always been an upgrade (i.e. China Beach, One Tree Hill)

and I think the producers didn't really think about that "5 years later" Andrew doesn't really look like 5 years older MAN... still teenage, and how come 5 years later Gabi had 2 kids when in the last episode of 4th season she didn't want to have kids... and that kid is lke 5 yo? silly... and yep

but with Desperate, 5 more years and they are OLD. i mean, bree looked like an old lady and what aboyt lynette!? god. she looked Fed up. susan looked the same.
and gabby? JESUS. the one character i loved above all and they did THAT to her! i hate it so much. it used to be such a sexy naughty show. now starring all old ladies i have no idea how it will survive.
loved season 4 tho. and im surelly gonna buy the dvd onces it comes here to argentina

I can not wait for the next season, it will probably be the best season yet. I for one was sick off all the stupid kids, I cant wait for the parents to deal with teenagers. I think thats what most real people can relate with. So the teenagers we grew to love got into their trouble so its time to add more and of corse they will add some more kids just to keep the baby lovers at bay. Ha I think it will be interesting, do you now how much shit they can write about now? Im a huge fan and Im not going to stop watching it just because they are doing it 5 years later. For 1 thing you all know the writers, they are sneaky it will probably be nothing at all what everyone is makin git out to be. that is all i am off to work.... Peace

That's like watching the first episode and going "BUT WHY DID MARY ALICE KILL HERSELF?!!!"

The entertainment is in finding out the "why". Of course the producers have thought about it, and they've explained a numerous amount of times why they're doing it.

Gaby can't have children, so her kids are most likely adopted.

You....really don't age that much from 19-24. What do you want to see? Wrinkles? Gray hair?

Not everyone watches it because the ladies look hot. Since when do all characters on Tv have to look unrealistically beautiful?
Cherry is trying to get the show back to its S1 roots. The way the women look fits their characters, plain and simple.

It also gives them the opportunity to "fill in the gaps" of the last 5 years. Not only do you get the continuing storyline for the current arcs but you'll want to know what happened to Mike? When is Andrew coming over? Things like that.
