Des'ree sues Beyonce for covering "Kissing You"!!!!!!

Lmao @ Beyonce being a 4th writer on "Listen" when all she did was suggest they use live instruments. Girlfriend said herself, the song was already in the script before she even came on board.

Oh, and as far as Des'ree vs. Beyonce...Bee may be hot stuff in America...but WW....not so much.

What - you think Elvis actually wrote "Don't Be Cruel"? That was part of his deal for awhile - if he recorded your song, he got listed as a songwriter, and got a chunk of the songwriting royalties. Fudging the truth? Sure. But by recording it, Beyonce's gonna move a couple million units, and I can imagine some songwriters willing to part with half their royalties in exchange.

I saw on TV interview that Elvis wanted to do the same with "I will always love you" by Dolly Parton and she refused

Many years later Miss Whitney Houston did it for "The Bodyguard", and guess who got the royalties for that!

Beyonce cover of this is just bad. Des'ree version will always be superior because it had emotion and didnt sound forced.

Des'ree claims that the verses of "Got Til it's gone" are too similar to her song "Feel So High". Even though I've heard both songs, and they're not similar enough for a lawsuit...

Not only that, Robyn's "Show Me Love"'s verses also sound similar, but Des'ree didn't do anything to her...

part of the settlement, if Janet was to talk about Got til its gone and her inspiration for it or how she came about writing it she HAS to give credit to Des'ree....not too sure how much she sued Janet for though
 
I'm not an expert in copyright law, but if Des'ree is a songwriter of the tune, she's going to get royalties anyway. So what's the drama?
It's much different if you're taking an actual sample of a recorded track, but if you're doing your own cover version, there are no performance royalties, just publishing and songwriting ones.

Thats the problem, des'ree wont get profit from it because Beyonce covered it without the clearance to do so. Its considered stealing to cover a song for profit without permission of the original artist. The only person that was getting royalties was Beyonce which is why she is in this mess.
