I bought some digital camera rechargable batters for my 3rd and 4th wii remote. they will charge for 5 hours... and i put them in and they work.. well i can not use them till I have company and then a week later... the batteries are dead again. What the hell? Why aren't they holding the charge? Should they not be sitting in the remotes?

Batteries discharge over time when not in use. But becoming completely empty seems pretty weird, especially if they're brand new...

How about keeping them in the charger until you use them?

It does seem strange - I use Energizer rechargables and it's very rare that they are completely empty by the time I crank my Wii up.
I bought one of those rechargable battery packs and the little stand, you just stick the remote in the stand and it charges. I prefer that over batteries, rechargable or not.

I left it in the wii remotes for a week after being charged. Then i had company and they lit up but then didnt point and the screen said they were dying

It's true that NiMH batteries lose charge with time, but that typically takes a few weeks go go from full to zero.

I think you may have a defective set of batteries or a defective charger. The other issue is that normal AA alkalines run at 1.5V. NiMH's usually run around 1.2V. Every device has a voltage below which it simply will not work. I don't know what it is for the Wiimote. But it's certainly possible that when the batteries drop to half their charge, their voltage isn't enough to run the Wiimote.

I personally have a whole bunch of Maha PowerEx NiMH's. They are superb. I highly recommend them.

I've had this problem with rechargeable energizer batteries. sometimes i charge them over night, then put them in my camera and 3-4 days later go to use the camera and they last for like 10 pictures. i came to the conclusion that i must have screwed up the charge at some point and they are not charging all the way (hardly at all). i've not yet tried, but i think i'll get a new set of rechargeable batteries.

i never had that problem with rechargable batteries, but i elected to go the battery pak route and really liked it. I got Nyko ones, they last a long time and charge really fast (plus u don't have to take them out to charge them). When my cousin asked for a cord and battery pak to charge his 360 controller i went with a Nyko and he really liked them

damn it... it happened again! I charged them for 5 hours... put them in the remote.. and they appeared full! Then a day later i had more company and i felt so embarrassed when the screen was beeping for players three and four when I tried to use them for the first time since they were recharged..

Sounds like you've got some bad batteries. Go with the MAHA PowerEx's I mentioned. You can get them from Thomas Distributing.
