Disaster and betrayal

>>>There's a huger difference between hopes and grooming. My hopes have to be borne out by others behaviour and achievements.

Well, yeah. "Groom" was a poor choice of words. But still, even thinking the word "partner" less than two weeks in seems a bit premature.

>>>I groom my cats for no reason except that I love it and they do too.

Oh definitely. Cats love that. But we've run into a quandry with one of our current cats. Most cats just sit there and get groomed, and when they've had enough, they jump off the lap or whatever. Our current cat won't. Ever. He'll just sit there and take it. I'm sure if we sat there and brushed him bald, he'd sit there purring through it all. So we haven't figured out a way to say "Look, that's it. Leave."

>>>And what's the pissy comment about which car we drove? I've never even referred to an automobile before.

I thought it was funny. Sometimes I put in jokes just for myself. Nobody else has to get them.

Why would anyone put a job that they worked for 8 days on their resume???

Theres a reason why he told the second employer he wasn't currenty working so he can increase his chances of getting the job

Most people lie in interviews to make themselves look better to the employer
There's a difference between puffery and outright lies. Puffery is saying "I'm a really terrific engineer" when you're not. Lying is saying "I have a PhD from Carnegie Tech" when you don't. Or in this case "I left my last job 2 months ago."

And these days with Google, Facebook, classmates.com, pipl.com, it's getting a lot harder to get away with a lie...

The good news is that today I may have someone who's working on contract (so I'm not purloining talent)to step into his place and get them oriented and trained before I take my vacation at the beginning of October.

But Jeez.

Am I just getting too old and cynical to enjoy the HR bumps and grinds anymore?

Anyhow, all, thanks for your words and very kind thoughts about Buddy too. He is so fragile now that when you pick him up you have to be really careful about setting him back down on his feet; otherwise he falters. He reminds me of my dad in his last days...even the look on his face.

I'm dying to finish the day and get home to curl up with him for some quiet time.

Anyone with half a brain wouldn't put a job they worked for 8 days on their resume

Who cares (besides the OP) he lied to the OP saying he was staying intill a better offer came

He got a call back from the job he really wanted late so he went on the interview and and got the job their (If the OP's phone call didn't sway the empoyer from hiring him)

Nothing wrong with that he got bills to pay, maybe even a family to support, student loans to pay back.

It's his life, his career maybe he just didn't want to work with someone or for someone who helped him out through college.

It sucks for the OP but there are plenty of unemployed people who are qualified or more qualified for the that position

Maybe the lad is a relative or you have know him for quite a while and considered him as a friend ?

I'm sure the true liar has already found a way around that.

That really blows...obviously I wasn't there and don't know the whole situation but sounds to me like that bloke has no sense of loyalty, which is sad. I respect loyalty more than almost anything else. Ten bucks says that after not too long making more money at his new job, he realizes that money isn't everything and it's sometimes better to have people who've got your back and are ready to help you out when you need it are worth more than al the gold in the world.

Karma, it'll come around. You need do nothing but enjoy the moment when you find out they dumped him for someone that works cheaper, or something.

Sorry to hear about your cat, too. A bleeding pussy is never a good thing (sorry, couldn't resist).

These are all valid points.

But after all the help from Rareboy, there is no way I would do something like that. I would tell the other firm "too late; I've signed on here and I intend to see it through. I hope we'll consider each other should circumstances force me to move in the future." I do believe in loyalty.

Hard luck, Rareboy - you deserve better. And good luck with the kitty.
