my favorite disastder move of all time has got to be The Poseidon Adventure. After all these years it has never lost its appeal

My favorite disaster movie is Deep Impact. It's actually a fairly accurate portrayal of what would happen if a comet really were discovered to be headed toward Earth. It wasn't ridiculous and overblown like Armageddon. And, breaking a lot of disaster movie rules, it allowed most of its main cast to die.

Actually...that should BE a rule for disaster movies...that most of the cast is killed.

I know...I hate when a disaster movies ends lik "millions upon millions of people are dead, but everything is okay because the everyone we care about survived."

I'm looking at you, Independence Day.

My favorite is The Poseidon Adventure. When I saw that as a kid it terrified me. The scene when the tidal wave flips the boat over scared the crap out of me.

I don't think any other disaster movie lives up to TPA. I think The Towering Inferno came close, but ultimately failed at being very gripping.

Then there's the ridiculously bad disaster movies like When Time Ran Out, The Swarm, Beyond the Poseidon Adventure and Meteor. Those movies are fun to watch because they're just so bad.

None of the more modern disaster films do much for me. Deep Impact was ok, but Armageddon was awful. I hated The Day After Tomorrow and loathed Poseidon, the remake.

i thought i was the only one that liked The Stand
such good movie/series
just saw it again month ago

Back in the 70's they had such a big run with Airport disaster movies, I still love those. I mean come on where else can you get all those Hollywood stars in one picture. Such as Gloria Swanson in Airport 75

They don't make disaster movies like they used to. Most of them nowadays will be guaranteed to suck. They usually include a sappy back story which has nothing to do with dealing with the disaster and nobody cares about.

I wish they'd starting making Airport disaster movies again. Especially since air travel has increased so much in the past twenty years, I think new Airport movies would resonate more with viewers now then they did in the 70's. But after 9-11, hollywood doesn't have the balls to bring them back.
