Lucas has sold Lucas Films including the rights to the Star Wars Franchise to Disney. Disney announced that they will be releasing Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015. No it is not an April Fools joke, Lucas has flipped on his vow that there would be no more Star War films and given the franchise over to someone else. Yes Lucas will not be producing the new films (Disney is expecting to keep producing SW films indefinitely). So let the speculation begin on what the 'Disneification' of Star Wars will be like!

The Adventures of Jar Jar and The Little Mermaid!

Padme Amidala and the Seven Droids!

One Hundred and One Nerf Herders!

Star Wars Christmas Special, Enhanced!

Emperor Palpatine's New Groove!

star wars theme park...

That isn't even new. Even when I went to Disney World in the 90s, they had a ride at MGM Studios (oh look another non-Disney company) called Star Tours. Not to mention they had an Indiana Jones live show (another Lucasfilm IP).

Still if it manages to be better than Episode 1, that's an improvement.

Well this is definitely surprising. I wish Disney wouldn't buy up absolutely everything. Free market and all that.

Still, at least it's not Fox.

I was in fact MAJORLY surprised when I heard this earlier on, I NEVER actually figured that George Lucas would hand over the rights of his franchise to any outside body, so just goes to show how much I know, lol.

I never expected a seventh movie. EVER.

And at the moment, I can't figure out if Disney will ruin it or revitalise it. Time will tell (roll on 2015!)

You guys don't get it

A star wars movie isn't just a star wars movie. It is a new theme park, it is DOZENS of new video games. New content, clothes, pop culture references, and media.

They are creating a new universe (You know what I mean, new setting, it's still star wars). None of us are ready. We have three years to prepare our souls. You better get started now.

Less farts than in Phantom Menace?

Outside of the theme park, this has been happening already.

I'm confused. What is already happening? Episode 7 was just announced what content could be released now? Or are you saying people have created media off of star wars movies in the past?

I know, that's why I am bringing this up. People are just thinking oh "Star Wars movies" they aren't thinking of all the new memes, toys, board games, Halloween costumes, and cultural impact. This isn't "Total Recall" this is a new fucking Star Wars movie. A new trilogy.

No more making sense of shit with a "prequel". New iconic heroes, new iconic villains, new Iconic companions. I'd love to see the receipts of what all the Star Wars crap that has been sold over the past however many years grossed total. World isn't ready for Episode 7,8,9. Especially with the people who oversaw Spider man/Avengers in charge.

Then you're in luck, the BBC website did this graphic of it....

I am ASTOUNDED (and a little dismayed) that TOYS made THREE times the takings from the movies???? :dead:

Ridiculous.

Am I the only one that pines for the days when movies were just real movies, plain, simple, nothing more, and not corporate and consumer-based mass-marketing events? :##:

In retrospect, I wish he'd made this decision before the prequels occurred.

And it's not very reassuring that he's staying on as a creative consultant. (Hoo-ah.)
