Making its debut yesterday at the American International Toy Fair is Disney’s first African-American princess character, Tiana, from the upcoming Disney animated musical, “The Princess and the Frog.”

According to USA Today, Princess Tiana will be a “cocoa-colored doll which sports a tiara and a flowing blue gown” and will be about the same size as a standard Barbie doll. It’s expected to sell $10 to $15.

We've had white, indian and now black. When will we have a hispanic one? lol Maria the Princess! Does Esmeralda count? She's not an official princess, but then again is she 'spic?

*instructs the choir to stand*

*launches into operatic reading of "We Shall Overcome"*

But in any case, she looks purty enough and it appears the animators/creators didn't go overboard with adding too much junk in her trunk.

It woulda been HILARIOUS if they did, you know Disney usually goes predictable when trying to appeal to blacks. I woulda laughed my ass off if the doll had an obnoxiously large backside.

I'm a little excited about this film, I'm not gonna lie. I may go to the theater and watch it--when there is no one around, of course. Here are some stills from the movie, the animation is beautiful:

^^ Oh, well, the site I got them from called them stills--but I guess "concept art" would be the better term? In any case, I agree with you, if the film's animation is in keeping with the art, then I may just have to catch a showing of it in the theaters when it comes out.

Color of the gown is too reminiscent of Cinderella. They should've chosen another color.

Um, am I the only one offended by this comment?

It seems that everyone rushes to bash anyone that makes a negative comment towards an African-American, but comments like this simply go ignored.

 of course it would be Mardi Gras during the movie.....I swear...misconceptions of New Orleans never end...wonder if they are even going to show how segregated it was down here....especially since they put Rex in one of those concept art pics

ANYWAYS....

I hope the movie does good, I really do...as someone said..about time Disney made a new 2-D movie...hope the songs are good too....hopefully it'll be good and action-y enough that they'll put it in the next Kingdom Hearts game ;)

I wonder if they'll have an big event for it down here in New Orleans like they did when Hunchback of Notre Dame first came out

:rotflmao: When did that shit happen? I didn't even notice his comment, now that you pointed it out I'm just going to ignore him. I like to talk to people who atleast made it past 5th grade.
