you know, I never liked country.

But I decided to check out the album after it won all those grammys because I was curious.

I loved it.

then I bought the rest of the albums.

and loved them.

And I just saw the documentary.

Now, ok.. considering the one and only feature-length movie I ever directed WAS, in fact, a documentary, I would have edited the back 10 minutes a bit different.

But I love them even more.

I love how they collectively gave the "fuck you, we're not begging you to like us" finger to the entire country market. they refused to service their songs to CMT and refused to suck up to country radio.

they refused to back down.

they refused to turn on each other and they decided that they would keep going no matter what.

And at the end when she goes back to the same venue and says the same thing, you just have to love her.

If you haven't seen this yet.. just do it..

I felt that whole "Fuck you" coming back into me that I felt when I first started to stand up for myself.

The way they supported each other was kind of inspiring. It would have been so easy to blame Natalie for what happened, but they seemed to become even closer after the controversy started. 'Cause let's face it, Natalie ain't about to start keeping her mouth shut.

The thing the film really need though was more music. I wanted to see more of them in concert.

i so want to watch the documentary.... but don't have a way of getting it...

The Dixie Chicks are my country goddesses.

I'm listening to Taking the Long Way right now as a matter of fact haha. They are so great. I loved them before the whole backlash and will continue for as long as they keep making great music. I haven't seen the DVD yet but plan on buying it soon.

It's completely surprising you've become a dixie chicks fan soil, but thanks for the review you made me want to see it now. Also this is slightly off-topic but I'm curious what was your documentary about.

A few years back, Dixie Chicks lead singer (Natalie Maines) made an off-the-cuff remark in concert, stating that she's ashamed the President of the United States was from Texas. People assumed that The Dixie Chicks didn't support the troops, etc. and suddenly radio stations stopped playing their songs. The country music community completely shunned them. Fellow country singer Toby Keith made several hateful comments about them during his own live shows. They were referred to as "The Dixie Sluts," "Saddam's Angels," etc. and radio stations held 'fun' events where fans could all show up to publicly destroy their Dixie Chicks albums. They received death threats (one said that Natalie would be shot dead live on stage), and their #1 single plummeted. They went from being the best selling female group to being completely shunned, all due to the fact that (for the most part) the country music community is a Bush-loving group if rednecks.

Anyway, the documentary is about what it was like for the girls during the whirlwind of controversy and how despite being given opportunities to be 'sorry' for what was said, they decided to stand strong for their freedom of speech and they came out better in the end because of it.

From as far as I can tell, they no longer attend the CMA's (Country Music Awards) but they won every single Grammy they were nominated for a few weeks ago -- including Album of the Year. So, suck it you country cunts!

I also love the song that was inspired by all of it, "I'm Not Ready To Make Nice."

"I'm not ready to make nice, I'm not ready to back down. I'm still mad as hell and I don't have time to go 'round and 'round and 'round. It's too late to make it right. I probably wouldn't if I could. 'Cause I'm mad as hell, can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should. Forgive sounds good. Forget? I'm not sure I could. They say time heals everything... but I'm still waiting."

And why is it that The Dixie Chicks went through such hell but Pink gets away with THIS song? I mean, I love love love it, but still...

The Chicks would be proud! :P

"What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay? I can only imagine what the first lady has to say. You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine..."

Pink comes from a genre whose fans are more tolerant of different views.

Nashville rules country music with an iron fist, and if an artist doesn't do what is expected of them, they are out.

Mine was about the trip that Fratmen took to Australia to shoot Alumni Weekend 5: Australia last November.

I took my camera everywhere and shot everything that happened.

It's not a "Making Of" movie at all, really. It's about the experience that the guys had while they were down there. Lots of footage of the guys horsing around on the beach and in the pool and jacking off while we're trying to have lunch.

Here's a couple clips from it...

Thanks Jasun, and HourglassGuy sorry for any confusion but I already knew what "Shut Up and Sing" was about.

I know. I figured that out after I posted it. But then I spent five minutes or so typing it out, so then I thought, "Fuck it. I'm posting it anyway." LoL
