Do Americans (especially men) have an inherent aversion to social movements?

Americans on:

Aboltiion: Fuck that!

Voting rights for women: Go fuck yourself!

Worker's rights: You have the right to give your labor away and that's it! And don't you complain you trash filth!

The Civil Rights Act: *police point guns at protestors

Affirmative Action: reverse racism!

Metoo: End rape? I cannot in good conscience support this.

Inclusion/diversity: Oh so THIS is what it feels like when the cold, hard hands of oppression choke the freedom out of you.

Woke: Over my dead body!

Gay Pride: Stop throwing your sexuality in my face!

Defund the police: No, police shooting black people all the time is a matter of public safety.

It seems, throughout history, forward movement has always been a small group of people fighting against the status quo who refuse to confront their own prejudices. There's always an enthusiastic group of traditionalists who refuse to stand on the correct side of history.

Americans are too stupid for democracy. Too many of us vote without looking at the big picture, assuming we even know what that is, and vote according to whatever issue is important to us that day.

We also have an all-or-nothing approach to whatever party we affiliate ourselves with. I'm scared of the brown people so I'm a Republican. Guess I better like guns and Jesus and mistrust science too!

I'd like to believe that, at the very least, people vote out of the goodness of their hearts, but again, that which determines what is good and kind and just is usually seen through the eyes of partisan brainwashing.

Fuck it. Just flip a coin and let the electoral college decide.

This was a major topic of my b.a. thesis. I looked at post-WWII Germany. But it's the U.S.'s show over there too. I think the World Wars are a key factor. Nothing else could stem the powerful threat that movements represented to the project of empire at the turn of the 20th century. The king was set to lose his head. The wars consolidated ruling class hegemony and empire in the usual might-is-right willy wagging way. No better way to get everyone to shut up about revolution. Nationalist fervor takes over, permanent fossil-fueled war economy, profit bonanza. The average 'first worlder' (or wannabe) prefers not to think about the demonic totalitarian order enabling their mundane life of infantilized convenience. The overwhelming threat of state violence and marginalization employed against dissent. They definitely prefer not to think about the environmental collapse their consumer lifestyle is producing. I mean, gotta go to the gym and get the latest iphone and what did kanyedashian say?! Zombie says: freeddom and democracyy. Good zombie!
