Alright, so I know if someone asks you:

Are you a friend of Dorothy? That means, are you gay?

Do bisexuals have a phrase like that?

Hahahaha, never heard of that! What's wrong with simple questions like 'are you gay' or 'are you bisexual'?

The whole U.S. isn't exactly gay/bi-friendly.

I guess there are a bunch of phrases like that for gay guys, but that's the only one I know.

All I know is that everything's gay these days in the US ...

That movie was gay, weekend was gay, gay outfit, etc all meaning bad ... but Dorothee ... sumthing like the Golden Girls? (bíg les)

My phrase is "How U Doin'?" It is a universal phrase for all the "friends" whether they are homosexual or bisexual.

My favorite phrase for asking a guy if he's gay is "So, what do you do for fun?" If he is, he usually gets the hint. If he isn't, then it's just a simple question.

I think "Dorothy" actually refers to Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz.

Exactly - you know "somewhere, over the rainbow..."
They only had to partially explain it to me. I caught on after a bit. I'm still kinda dense though.

As for "how U Doin" A bunch of my friends say that all the time.

-- EDIT --
Wait...back up the train. What do you mean "How U Doin" is a universal phrase for "friends"? Are you serious?

Ok, tell me more because you got me wondering about something now.

"How U Doin" is a phrase coined by comedian Dee Lee and was used by him and Wendy Williams while they worked together on Philadelphia radio station Power 99FM. Williams continued to use the phrase to this day on her radio show to signify a "friend" or somebody is either or suspected to be gay or bisexual.

i always thought, how you doing was Joey from friends, hitting on girls??

as, i use it some times as a joke when talking to a girl. and so do a lot of people i know

Hmmm....ok, now I'm interested. When did this phrase become popular?

I used to be best friends with a guy when I was a teen. Hell, there was a while where we were damn near inseparable. We constantly hung out and slept over quite a bit.

He always seemed pretty straight, but he did say gay things a lot. You know, the way most straight guys joke, and I'd joke back. But, something about it was a bit different when he did it.

And he ALWAYS said How U doin' to me and a few others. I'd never heard of the phrase (obviously) but he was from another part of the country. I don't think he watched the friends tv show.

And I know he's had one or two girlfriends, but I never heard him talk about sex...ever.

Man, looking back, I wonder if he was "testing the water." It always seemed like he was checking people's reactions when he said gay things, but maybe I was reading into it too much.

Oh yeah, and sometimes he'd go on about how fat he was. I mean, he did it in a manly way, but he was definitely NOT fat. Usually only chicks or gay guys go on about being fat when they're not. (i.e. you could see his abs, he just wasn't totally riped)

I just thought of him as a friend. (Never thought of him sexually) But, now that I think about it, naivety probably struck again. I hope he wasn't too into me.

Really though, he acted VERY masculine. I suspected a little bit, but I doubt anyone else did. Now that I don't know, I think it's really going to bug me.

Ugh, I never pick up on little signals. See, this is why I want to know these phrases!

asking somebody "are you family" is a phrase that I heard gay guys use to figure out if somebody else is gay or not...

this girl once asked me "is it true that you're like a highway?"
and i was like wtf...

then i got it (like 30 minutes later)...
hint: highways go both ways

but i dont thats like an official call phrase or whatever

I never heard of the Dorothy call phrase (can't stand that bitch anyways), but Caroline Rhea's mother apparently tells her that she thinks that guy's name is Gary and that the 'r' is silent. o_O

I've heard the swing both ways line, also playing for both teams etc...

Is he from the family? = Is he gay also?
Are you friend of Dorothy? = Are you gay?
Do you play for the other team? = Are you gay?
He seems to be dual band = He seems to be bisexual (dual band like a cell phone).
