Body language: The Russian science keeping North Korea's dead leaders looking fresh

Would you want to be able to see the dead?

Keep in mind, a good embalmer can give a cadaver an erection like no other before it.

I'd like to see an up close pic, i'm sure a fresh mask is regularly put on the corpse.

Those damned commies might just be replacing the whole corpse and slipping a mask on it.

That's what they want to do with Lenin's body. Bury it and replace it with a replica

I find it creepy to leave a person on display, even the thing with funeral viewing is a little odd to me. My dad died in the early 60's, no way would I want to go look at him today.

No, I would not want to be able to see someone who died forever. I might want to see them once to be sure that they are really dead, but the funeral viewing is enough. Pictures of them alive would be more appropriate, enjoyable, and informative.

We dispensed with the public viewing of my parents when they died.

And when I saw my parents laid out in the funeral home prior to being moved to the church for their funeral service, I realized that neither of their corpses looked like the people that I knew once all the life was gone out of them. They were just empty shells.

I am more a believer in burying or cremating as quickly as possible and then moving on.

The older I get, the more it bothers me to go to open-casket funerals.
Maybe it is because when I go to calling hours, I have better connections to the deceased than back when I was a kid.
It really bothers me to see deceased former students.
I can't tell you how many drug-related death wakes I attend.
It is devastating to see your former student, still in their youth, or early adulthood, dead...

And then...there's Joanna the Mad.

On September 25, 1506, Philip suddenly died after a five-day fever. Joanna fell into deep despair and refused to part with Philip’s embalmed body.

... Joanna eventually allowed her husband’s body to be buried, but only for a brief time. She had him exhumed, and when Philip's coffin was reopened, she leaped to his side and kissed his feet. From then on, Philip’s corpse went with her everywhere: From her travels and the dinner table up to her bedside. Most of the time, the coffin was closed. She would, however, occasionally open it to make sure the body was still there or talk and gaze at her beloved.

funny you mentioned this a few weeks ago I went to a 25 year old friends grandmothers wake and she said at least she lived to be 85--and I said yeah at least we don't go to young peoples funerals---and she said, oh she went to 3 in high school---kids who died of OD's or car accidents.

I never really considered how teachers handle the death of a student until I witnessed their grief first hand. Truly heart breaking. My condolences to you and all teachers.

I didn't know open casket funerals were still done. I was under the impression people stopped doing them 30 years ago. I've never been to one.

Wrong I have been to Russia and Seen Lenin there is no mask. When Evita Peron Died in Argetntina she was not just embalmed a liquid was used to keep her looking liek the day she died. At one Point when Jan Peron Brought her to Spain when he was thrown out of Argentina he had the coffin in his home until the years after her death she looked the same check out google pictures,
