This routine was a classic! My Mom and I loved this album. She bought it for me for Christmas.

The weird thing is that this is the first thing I think of when I see his name.

I loved Flip Wilson as Geraldine!
Generally guys in drag don't hold my attention that much, but Flip Wilson was a stitch! :D

I haven't read anything above yet. I just wanted to say,

"The Devil made me buy this dress!!"

Now, I'll go back to the top and read what this is about. I just wanted you to know that I remember Flip very well, and Geraldine was my favourite character.

Yup, just as I expected, and I didn't peek, honest.

He was a treasure and one of the funniest men on television. I haven't thought about him in years, but as soon as I saw his name here, Geraldine popped into my head and all the great memories came flooding back. It's hard to believe he's been gone for 20 years.

Thanks for the laughs, Flip.

I remember him well, he was funny. Back in the day these types of variety shows were all the rage. They made people laugh with silly skits, there were musical numbers, dancers, plate spinners. All fun. Cedric the Entertsiner had a similar type skit show on years ago that was funny...

We loved him and were lucky enough to buy a box set of his tv show on dvd. I think its time to watch it again. He was a great comedian!

Never heard of the chap, sounds good though.

Yes, grandma.

In precocious Spanish television, these variety type shows endured well into the Oughties, whereas in the rest of Western Europe they'd replaced them with telethon rubbish twenty years earlier.

Don't call ME grandma whippersnapper....or are you?

I've watched a few old variety-type programs lately - Carol Burnett Show and Laugh-In, mainly. Carol Burnett's show holds up fairly well, although it's easy to see that Saturday Night Love definitely didn't invent the "they loved this character once before, so let's trot them out again and again and again..." schtick. Some of what we might politely now call "ethnic humor" definitely doesn't hold up.

Laugh-In is surprisingly resilient, despite the Nixon/Watergate references.

Yes! I was seven years-old in 1970 when his show began. My parents were big fans and they let me and my older sister watch.

I remember watching the show. I used to love when he did Geraldine! The devil made me do it!

It is hard to believe he has been gone almost 20 years. He was very funny! There are not too many young comedians as funny as he was, today!
