Do you think I will be okay with a new i7 computer?

I currently have a great Samsung i7 laptop computer, that was purchased in 2011 and it is still running on Windows 7. Though I only have about 30% of the memory filled up on this old machine . . . it has started to slow down, the fan runs hot very often, the display driver often fails and the screen blacks outs (but automatically recovers and gets the screen back) when only using Google maps, and it is dial up slow using IE, but still is quick and fast using Firefox, though some of the programs I had been using are not longer supported due to the discontinuation of Windows 7 support . . . which is okay and I understand.

I know that I have needed a new computer for a couple of years now, so now I am ready to buy a new computer. Since I can’t afford an i8 or i9 laptop, I was wondering will getting a new laptop with i7 and Windows 10 be super fast as I am accustomed to with my old reliable 9 year old laptop? Yet I see I can get a great i7 for about $900, which works for my budget.

2 years ago, I got a cheap HP laptop, so I could use away from home without a care if it got banged-up or stolen, yet unfortunately that laptop only had 4GB Memory - AMD Radeon R3 - 64GB eMMC Flash Memory AND was dial-up SLOW, like the way dial-up internet worked in the 90's . . . yet that computer was that slow, even without trying to use the Internet. Every pre-installed program on that computer took about 1 - 2 minutes to fully open to use it.

I want to stick with Samsung, as other than getting old, this computer has never let me down, broke, and never needed a repair. Yet I just want to get some professional advice, and wonder will a new i7 laptop meet my needs? One thing for sure, I don’t think I want anything less than an i7, because I fear that anything lower than an i7 will process all of my actions and programs too slow or slower than what I am used to now using an i7 all of these years. I don't do anything special with my currently i7, but in general I like that it is always quick and fast for what I do, even when I play CDs or DVD movies on it . . . all of that goes quick and fast.

Your thoughts?

i7 should be good enough for simple tasks like internet (browser/mail) and watching movies. More RAM is always good. At least 8GB, ideally more. A dedicated graphics card is mandatory if you want to enjoy games or intense graphics/video editing.
