  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you work close to home?

I too only have to climb the stairs to get to work.

The advantage is that when I am fed up I can just climb down them again and I am home to have a quick cigarette or cup of coffee or even browse JUB for a few minutes.

45 minutes each way - I drive to a transit station and then take an express bus downtown

OMG, knowing you and your job that sounded so perfectly upstairs-downstairs...

I could be assigned to any of 15 different offices for the day. The closest one is 3 blocks, the furthest 29 miles.

I get paid time and milage though.

But they probably used lots of wood in making that house, right?

Yep, but it is covered with layers and layers of all kinds of other materials. The roof is concrete tiles. I live in a high fire danger area so there is very little visible wood.

What about 600 sq. ft.?

That could be nice. :)

I have to admit that in some ways, my home is too big for me. It was really designed for a family. But I needed the office space. I just wish that it had something like a 6 car garage so that I had more storage space for the businesses.

I'm about 15 miles from where I work so it's roughly a 20 to 45 minute trip depending on the traffic. Not too bad..

I a European, I live in a (compared to US standards) tiny place with no termites, no backyard, no snakes...
I a American, I live in a (compared to US standards) generous space with no termites, a LARGE backyard, and I invited a snake into my living space (witness my avatar).....

and loving every minute of it.....

but as to topic....if I'm home, I'm not earning $$$; although, I don't have a job to report to daily...

as a consultant I must travel away from home to be useful to my client at his own workplace....sometimes flying and sometimes driving over a thousand miles on a job.....

it doesn't really fit what I believe to be the intent of your question, but there are lots of us who work in situations that takes us FAR from home....

I used to work 5-10 minutes from my house. Now I have a new job downtown and a different house in the far-out suburbs, and its a minimum 30 minutes drive each way. Houston is way too spread out.

It was often quicker for me to walk to work than to drive. It;s easier to cross the road as a pedestrian than to do a U turn i n a van. I use less than 200 square ft to live in
