went to the doctor today before work and he said he couldnt find any reason for my side pain ive been having for the past week or so. its on my right front side above my hip and under my ribcage. its been a soreness pain that comes and goes frequently. doctor said its probably the muscle in that area that is causing the pain and that i should take some ibuprofen for it. any ideas?

Is it not "stitches"?

When I was a kid, I used to have this sharp pain just below my ribs, but above the pelvic (hip) bone. It comes and goes.

After a while, I noticed that it would occur every time I had to take a 10 minute (brisk-ish) walk somewhere immediately after I had had a heavy meal. It stopped after I made sure I had a short rest before I exert myself after a heavy meal.

Are your symptoms similar? Does the pain occur in about the same manner? I hope this may be of some guidance to you.

Does the pain radiate towards your back ? Did he carry out any clinical tests ? Or even a basic PR exam ?

Forgot to ask , are you drinking more than usual and pissing more than usual ? Have you had any unexplained weight-loss ?
Fevers and nausea ?

Is it only happen in the morning when you wake up?
Maybe sleeping on your side for too long.

I can't think of any muscle in that area that would cause pain other than psoas. IF it is psoas you need to see a massage therapist but That's further down the list of possibilities. There are many causes for pain in that area. Really need more information about the pain before we can offer more info.

Anything make it better or worse? Did he do any tests?

Steven.

he didnt do any lab tests, just felt my muscles around the area. im feeling lower back pain now but might just be regular back pain. as of today its felt better, tends to get worse the longer im standing.

i had a low fever when i saw the doctor, havent been urinating or drinking any more than usual. no weight loss, vomiting or anything obvious.

theres still several possibilities but what your describing is beginning to sound possibly like psoas issues. It's a muscle that runs from the low back and attaches to the lesser trochanter of the femur. hopefully the image I've attached works and shows you what I wanted. If it doesn't google psoas muscle. It can refer pain up under the rib cage and down into the groin. A neuromuscular massage therapist is trained to work it and they should show you some stretches to help. It's accessed through the abdomen. The therapist slowly swirls their hands and applies pressure to the abdomen until they can feel the psoas muscle. If it's causing a problem you and the therapist will know immediately. It wont be a severe pain but you'll know they are in the right area. by chance are you a runner? Some runners tend to twist at the waist as they run. This can set it off. Also repetitive bending at the waist and twisting are common causes as well as poor posture if your sitting a lot. Like I said there are still several possibilities but the fact that it is getting better on its own and is worse with standing for long periods of time makes me feel better about it not being something acute.

Thank you very much. Thought about sciatica but haven't seen that refer under the ribs. Still wonder about gall bladder out something renal. Abdominal pain can be a mystery. Especially with limited information. I hope He's feeling better

Hell it could be a hernia , OP , if you are still getting pain then i would advise a second opinion . Good luck .

Very true. It could be anything. Of its not improving I'd see a different doctor for further follow up.

Have you used Viagra, Cialis or Levitra? Among the possible side effects listed is back pain, and some have complained in the area you you described. Have you tried Excedrin?

I had something similar some time ago and after a few tests my doc diagnosed a torn abdominal muscle. The pain wasn't severe though, but noticable. Ibuprofen made it go away and after a week it started to slowly fade.

^this is why a dr should always test , it is amazing what a few blood tests can reveal , as well as x-rays and scans .

Though this mainly only applys when they are unsure of their diagnosis . In the Community , a hospital setting is quite different .

I'm surprised he didn't do some simple liver functions, CBC or an amylase. A gallbladder ultrasound wouldn't hurt either. Maybe the OP is un insured. Since he's no longer posting I'm assuming he's feeling better. Hope so.

Me too , an LFT ,ultrasound and the most easiest to rule out Acute Pancreatitis , test the level of amylase !

Yep. Either this doc is incompetent or the OP didn't present his symptoms were very troublesome. Could be a little of both.
