I have no idea why I get this unless it's because of the Google search box included with Firefox, but I occasionally I get this message at the bottom of my browser and I sit back and wait quite some time (and I'm talking minutes, not seconds) before Goggle is contacted and the page finishes loading.

It's a real pain in the butt sometimes, but I don't know where it comes from or how to turn the damned thing off (if it can, indeed, be turned off).

i have never seen it. i use FF, but what is this google search box you are talking about? is that the one near the upper right? you can click it to search any search engine in the drop down menu there. i think you can also "manage" them so that there are none included. But again i have the google thing and i have FF and i've not noticed this thing you are talking about.

IIRC it has nothin' to do with the toolbar, rather it's websites that use google's service.

But, I may be wrong.

Never have seen it.

Is this just another fracked up thing Apple's are immune to?

no jub is using google-analytics for statistics and the likes.
it's a great tool for webmasters:

if you have a look at the sourcecode of every forum page here:

Code:
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
</script>

sometimes the website is slow and your dns-cache expired, and this is when you see the message which is usually there for just a split second.

Ah. It also appears in my forum which used to be at EzBoard but is now at Yuku. That's why I thought it might be something on my system or in my browser. It must be a popular thing with forums, then.

It's an annoyance, but it's frustrating sometimes to sit here and wait and wait and wait. (Like I said, I'm not talking a few frustrating seconds. I have seen the Windows clock change one minute and occasionally two minutes whilst waiting.)

umm .. yeah, plus it's a usual website functionality, no miss-behavior.

i've found a simple entry in hosts works well.

Or have an on-site dns server you can control resolution.

I did that back in the day with doubleclick - bastards they are.
