i notice alot of the regular users and their vids i'd been checkin out are gone. one of them was kicked off, the rest are still there but all there vids are gone. anyone else noticing anything like this?

Could be due to this, from the site:

Due to a massive amount of abuse on our system resulting in tens of thousands of dollars being spent on bandwidth as well as our new mission to cut down on piracy we have decided to all close webmaster accounts effective today. All webmaster uploads will be forbidden and all webmaster accounts will be locked from login and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. XTube has decided to take the role of a webmaster with the sponsors and will soon be accepting XTube approved sponsors. Sponsors/website owners may sign XTube up with their affiliate program and provide us with their commercial clips so that we may upload them directly to our servers and generate revenue for the sponsors as well as XTube. Any sponsors holding a webmaster account may contact and have their account rolled over to a public account however no copyrighted videos maybe posted in these accounts. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this change. Sincerely, The Staff at XTube.com

Not sure when this notice went up, I saw it yesterday.

Well, most of my favorites are gone and I guess it is screw the users too. I can see they had a problem. It is their business and their money, but for me, it is ruined now.

Was fun while it lasted.

Heh, regardless of what happened, it does suck, hardcore.

I logged in the other day and found that out of my 20 or so favorites, (several months of browsing) only 4 have survived the "purge," and those were some of the lower ones in the order.

Whatever they have to do then that should be acceptable to us all...after all they are running a business.

Looks like "Redtube" bit the dust too, as I could not access it at all.

most of my favs are gone, but good on them. people trying to run their businesses should not be punished by pirates.

guess it's back to the good old home made stuff, hey?

Seriously, I got on the other day, and ALL my favorites are gone, but 4...all the good ones dissapeared...

Like someone said, Fun while it lasted...

I'll tell you.. I actually produced original content exclusively for xTube.. the Jack-Off races, the naked twister, the pie fights, the dancing videos... we did those for fun and so people could find Fratpad and Fratmen without me flooding it with countless 30-second clips of the same old boring crap.

xTube had started to look like a dumping ground. Bandwidth costs alone would have been astronomical. People were making a fortune off of them and it was costing them a bundle. It was turning off members, too. People had started to go elsewhere. They had to take control before they killed themselves off.

It sucked that I lost all my stuff. But I support it totally. I'm sure that we can work something out to support them.

well, don't believe all you hear about the adult industry. We're a lot more moral and upstanding than the Christian right might have you believe.

And I actually had lunch with the Director of Ops of xTube today. It really was less piracy which they could control to a point and the outrageous over-saturation of boring 30-second clips that were destroying it.

Fratmen and Fratpad movies will be appearing on xTube soon as well as other content from most of your favorite studios and sites.. just not the same clip 500 times. We all win.

I'm for one glad that they decided to remove the webmasters' account.s These are the members that would upload hundreds of 30s clips. Hundreds! And it annoyed me and takes up the site's bandwidth. Now, I can easily find what I want from Xtube - amateur clips without having to go through pages of pure crap.

Sure, now they are running a business, when they started up and were recruiting users and members, building a 'client base' they were doing what they love, doing it for the chosen community, doing it for themselves. Suddenly commercialism and homogenization rears it's ugly ugly head and we are just supposed to accept that they are 'running a business' ?? and it doesn't just go for Xtube or Rebtube, I know of another little site, one that was all about gay guys, and only gay guys getting off, no charges, no commercial content, no bullshit.... lets just call it onlyweguys...

has anyone else noticed that we as a gay community are only becoming accepted as we become a commodity, something for another company to exploit? they finally realize that we generally are a group of driven, successful men, with high disposable incomes, and generally no dependents or forced commitment, and suddenly 'hey, you can be accepted too, just buy this product'

if you think i'm just being cynical, look into it, look into Gay Marketing, the past 10/15 years it has exponentially exploded as an industry. My two person favorites of this insulting paradigm of commercialism are "Untold Millions: Secret truths about marketing to Gay and Lesbian Consumers (Lukenbill 1999)” and “Twenty Million New Customers! Understanding Gay Men’s Consumer Behaviour (Kates 1998)"

why we put up with this shit when our relationships are still not even recognised, and our community is considered some cutesy joke (are you also aware that same sex relationships are given more credit and rights in South Africa, where 50 years ago they had the Apartheid, than countries likes Australia and the USA, go civil rights!) is ridiculous, and the fact we all play into it and then are shocked by the outcome is insulting.

You may want to think about this next time you sign up for some site membership or buy your Calvin Klien jocks or Prada bag.

Believe me, i could go on about this for days, i'm a media and psych student (aside from my actual work, cause no i'm not just some bitter queen cause i have no money) whose based themselves on such study.

but you guys get the point... now lets see how long it takes this comment to be removed??

All my favs are gone too, but I am sure I will find some new ones soon!
I really wonder what the point of all those 30 second clips was.
At Euroboy, we only put some trailers a few scenes. 100s of short clips would have been unmanageable!

Oh for crying out loud.

They were forced to make the decision of taking down the overly-saturated commercial content or going bankrupt. This isn't a conspiracy, just a company that wants to pay it's staff making changes so it can do that.

Exactly, it was the thousands of 30s clips that had been dumped on XTube that for me was the main issue...some of them just retagged the clips under another name...so you can see why XTube have made the decision that they made...and I look forward to seeing what happens from this point onwards.

What absolute clap trap.

XTube are running a business and they keep it free.

Do you want it to get to the stage were they end up making it a paid membership site? I know I don't.

Exactly, Soilwork.

If they did not do what they did then the only options would have been to shut the site down completely or go to a fully paid membership.

I fully support the action that XTube have taken.

Tube sites have massive amounts of content being used without permission that is the problem with them. There was tons of drama about XTube about 2 months ago in the adult industry and many webmasters banned the site. We didn't have any problems with XTube but many other people did. I believe they are now working closely with specifically chosen sites to get some of the videos back again.

don't get me wrong, i hate the commercial companies putting up their 30 second clips as much as anyone, and infact it speaks directly into my point, but they could always put on a minimum time for posted clips... and in all honesty that was a bitch about sites generally, not just xtube... and the PC bullshit that is being pulled.

plus, i know you're going to hate this like poison, but i can't help but notice the two that have bitched about my rant is someone advertising fratpad(... hmm) and a 'JUB supporter' how 'bout someone without advertising all over everything they say giving me some critique? no, wait, if you aren't getting paid for it, then it just ain't worth it...

call me a bitch, call me unrealistic.... call me a fucking socialist (which for the record i'm not) but for the rest of you who have read this and not said anything in return... count it!

oh and you really think the porn makers of the 70s and 80s, when it was horribly taboo to make porn let alone gay porn, were doing purely for the measly dollars they got out of it? please, it was shear narcissism and want for content that kept it going, allowing such companies of today to produce it legally, let alone make a lucrative career out of it... hmm how quickly we forget... or in hegemonic terms, rationalize it.

That was an idea that they had... thing is that there were lots of legitimate 30-second clips. I posted a bunch of short, silly things that were just under a minute. Lots of guys would post videos of themselves jacking off but edit them down to very short clips.. just the cum shot sometimes. Longer clips that were stolen from full-length DVDs were a drain on their bandwidth and they were going broke. They made this decision to stay in business.

A "JUB supporter" is someone who's paid a membership fee to JUB for some perks... not someone who works or makes money from JUB.

As far as me, my opinions come from knowing the owners of xTube personally and having long conversations with them about why they've made their changes and not just some knee-jerk reaction to losing my porn.

Trust me, I lost a great source of free advertising when I lost my xTube clips but I understand that if I want the Golden Goose to stay alive, I gotta help feed it.

ok, I've read this five times and I can't figure out what you mean by it. In the end, no matter how much we all may love the industry and making adult films (I really do love my job and have turned down plenty of "better paying" or "Better jobs" because I've learned in my long life that a job is more than just what you do.. it's got to be what you ARE), but we also need to eat and pay rent. Xtube had to make the decisions they made to stay in business. That's all.
