I was wondering because somebody told me that was one way to lose weight.

I thought baby food was loaded with carbs and fat.

I would imagine that it would good for you. I mean they say if babies would eat nothing but baby food and never have soda or sweets then fruit would be like suger is to most people. I also know that a friend of mine had the gastrobypass surgery and for the first 8 months she was only allowed to eat baby food. She dropped weight like it was nothing. Hope this helps...

But may I suggest less drastic methods? Crash and extreme diets only work (if at all) while you're doing them, and could potentially put your body under more stress. There's no point trying to lose weight if your body is too trashed to enjoy it.

I think the key word in the tiitle is "make."

No, baby food wont MAKE you lose weight. It's a calories in calories out (burn) thing.

Most baby food that you will find in a supermarket isn't full of food but mostly water and chemically modified starches, used as thickeners. So, yes you could eat it and possibly lose weight but but you wouldn't get the nutrition that your body requires to survive and possibly cause some sort of organ failure with prolonged use. Also the amount of money that would be spent on jarred baby food as opposed to pureeing it your self..... that's just insane. If you want to buy and consume baby food, you should only go with Earth's Best or Growing Healthy as they use more food per ounce and only water to thin it.

yeah, I'm sure the gastrobypass surgery had nothing to do with it.

I will try it for two weeks to see how it goes.

Yes. I would agree with you. If it works, you should continue for the rest of your life and have great looking body forever. And since its baby food, not only will you have a fabulous body, you'll have eternal youth too! Good luck! Get back to us in 1 week's time.

The amount of calories needed by a baby are miniscule compared with the calories a grown man needs in order to function properly. Eating baby food to lose weight is a sound idea in theory because you're cutting down on your calorie intake but wouldn't it be more wise to actually just cut back on the grown up food you eat and prevent doing any damage to your body in the long run?

Exactly. That's what most people tend not to grasp about these kinds of diets. You're not losing wait because you're eating baby food. You're losing weight because you're eating significantly less food. It doesn't matter what the food is; if you're eating less of it, it's going to help you lose weight.

I am a registered nurse and have taken many dietary classes in college and since. I have never heard this to be true. The most recent studies have proven that calorie count and excersise are the only two ingredients that work to healthfully lose wt. Just remember the 3 B's, baked, broiled or boiled... and of course instead of drive thru, drive past.... lol.. ;)

The problem here is the OP actually never said anything about eating less of it. Weight loss is not complicated its simply energy in vs. energy out. If your currently at a stable weight (regardless if its high or low) then your energy intake and your energy output must be the same if not ur weight would be rising or falling. Now you have two options, preferably you will combine them, to lose weight. You can intake a smaller number of Kjs, or you can spend a greater number of Kjs through aerobic exercise or increasing lean muscle mass.

There is no magic wonder drug, pill, powder, shake, miracle bar, or vegetable smoothie that gets around this simple law that if energy in > energy out you put on weight and energy in < energy out you will lose weight.

Now as a general rule baby food is fairly energy dense. Lets be sensible here the stuff is designed to take a 3kg baby and help them grow into a 20+ kg child. Infancy is a period of rapid growth and baby food is energy dense to reflect that.

Eat any sensible diet if you want to lose weight, just eat a little bit less of everything you have been and do a little bit more activity. It can be as simple as one less slice of toast at breakfast, a smaller side of chips with dinner and taking the stairs instead of the elevator every morning at work.
