Does the Curling Ever End?

I was looking at a facebook post the other day and the people were photographing themselves with their first attempt at curling...they were falling all over the place. They're usually a bunch of drunks so I'm not sure if it's tougher than it looks to stay upright playing it or if it was just them.

As for me, this thread takes me back to lazy Saturday afternoons lying on the couch watching curling matches...I would watch it all day. I don't know if they still air the matches any more or not...I gave up my cable years ago and for some reason I don't get Canadian tv on my antennae, although I'm close to the border.

Curling ice is very different than rink ice. Curling ice pebbled (small bumps) and very slippery, especially if they are using a slider on one foot. (Curlers slide only on the leading foot.) Also, curling stones can weigh up to 44 pounds, so it's very easy to be thrown off balance when you have problems just standing on the ice.

^ It does, and all of the world-class stones are made from the granite that the original curling stones were made from. At first, instead of throwing the stones down the ice, they used clubs. Not a good idea. So they decided to throw them instead and invented golf. It made more sense to hit a little ball than to hit a rock.

Count your blessings. At least it's not American football or boxing. I would give my left nut to trade the latter two for curling.
