It just a basic laptop that i used for work but now i want to sell it but need to be able to open first plus i want to remove an old files that i might need......any help please and thank you

Try this article which might help you out with ideas and tools - also this link or this link. If you don't have a physical Windows 7 install disc (or if you didn't create a rescue disc), depending on the laptop manufacturer, there's often a partition on the hard drive that you perform the procedure from.

By the way, even if as a last resort you have to do a fresh Windows 7 installation you should be able to still find and remove your data files (let's say you put them in a folder called "alberta2010" on your C: drive) residing on the hard drive, providing you don't wipe or reformat the drive first/during install, and in some circumstances providing they're outside of your "Documents & Settings" or Userdata folders. If you've just got stuff on your C: or D: drive, Windows shouldn't touch them when it does its reinstall.

I was about to suggest the same web link. Also, as you plan to sell it, if you have the Windows 7 operating system disk, you could do a clean install of the OS. It will wipe everything in the process.

About Windows 7 password recovery,i have right to reply this as i did it on my computer.
Google Ophcrack,it still works for us now,and it is free.

Plot Twist: It's still an issue after so long

If the issue is that you want the files off the machine, why don't you take out the drive and read the drive from another computer? Are the files you're after in the User Documents folder or did you have them stored in a different folder that is accessible to all users?
