Doogie Howser comes out...

If it had not been for him, I would have walked out of Rent during the first act. But he and two others gave very fine performances - as for the show:grrr: :grrr:

I mean you have a stage that has an orchestra in the middle of it. The basic sets are a bunch of chairs and different size tables. The back of the so called set is painted to look like a brick bldg. With the orchestra playing on a basically empty stage the sound goes went everywhere. The performers had to where mikes (sp) so that they could be heard. The sound was reasonable during the first act - then during the second act the upped the sound. So many possible good songs were lost and the performers were singing to basically an audience who could not make out what the hell they were saying/singing.

If you throw in the lousy book, what you basically end up with is one of the most unpleasant evenings in the theatre I have ever spent. I still cannot believe that I sat there through the entire show and did not walk out - well, there was a problem, I had a guest with me so there was nothing i could do. Stupid me should have gone and waited in the lobby.

Onward to Edward Scissorhand - a ballet, by Matthew Bourne, the choreographer who did the all mail Swan Lake and the beyond description Cinderella. I wonder what it is like seeing a ballet on Xmas eve. Sould be an interesting experience or a complete bomb.

Listen, anyone who plays the role of the emcee in 'Cabaret' on Broadway
as he did....(and rather well, at that) is kinda just 'back doored' into our
club. (So to speak)

I'm waiting for an announcement from John Stamos.
