Hey guys!

Any Drum Corps fans or alumni on here?

I never marched, but I'm a huge fan of the activity. My brother and some friends march.

If you march or marched in the past list your corp(s) and what and when you marched. If you are just a fan, list your favorite corps and shows etc...

I'm a huge Scouts fan... I also love Phantom, The Cadets, and The Cavaliers...

Cavaliers, Glassmen, and Troopers for me...I've had several students who marched in those groups over the years. Used to love the activity, but have become dis-enchanted with the shows...way too "long" on complexity/image and "short" on entertainment in my opinion.

Well, I'm not an alumni, but I love the Cavaliers. My favorite show was 2002 (Frameworks).

i totally agree with you! shows have really become too much theroy and a lot less entertainment. i really blame this "failure" on the crowning of the cadets for :the zone.

I marched for Southwind in 1993. I only did the one season because I aged out. That year was the first year the corps competed in Division 1. At the time, Southwind was based in Montgomery, Alabama. I happened to become best friends in college with the Southwind Drum Major. He convinced me to join, even though we were going to school in Minnesota. Twice per month, from December through May, we both flew from Minnesota to Alabama to attend camps. I was a music major and my college even gave me a grant to cover the travel and membership costs.

I was a remarkable experience. I grew up a lot that summer. It's funny (ironic funny, that is) that I don't remember much about the performances. The best memory I have is from one of our rehearsals. We practiced at Maxwell Air Force base in Montgomery. I recall one gruelling day spent outside in the humidity. It had been a rough day and my best friend (drum major) called a meeting...no staff allowed. He gave us a pep talk and then asked if we wanted to do one more run-through. It was approaching midnight. A couple of the veteran members and I stood up and said we wanted to do the run-through. That seemed to be enough to get everyone on-board. We set up for the run-through and I remember seeing lightning from a thunderstorm a few miles away. For whatever reason, things began to click that night. By the finale, everyone on that field could sense we had just performed better than we ever had. That midnight in Montgomery was pretty remarkable; and the feeling of having so many young people come together to accomplish something is a feeling I'll never forget.

(Incidently, the staff gave us an extra 1.5 hours of sleep that night for going the extra mile.)

Nice to see some corps people here!

Do you guys get to many shows during the summer?

I agree. The same thing has happened with high school marching band. Playing to the judges while ignoring the fans. Shows have become boring.

Give me Santa Clara again with Phantom of the Opera or Phantom's "New World". The old Madison Scouts belting out Malaguena.

When I was in high school they had Drum Corps International at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. Our school hosted a corp from Bayonne, NJ. I can't remember what they were called. I LOVED going to DCI!
