Hey guys. I recently hooked up with this guy I've been talking to and we made out a bit and I briefly went down on him also. I also noticed recently that my gums bleed very easily. I can be washing my face and start to taste blood. I've known my gums are sensitive, but nothing like this. I know bleeding gums makes oral risky to hiv, but is it really THAT bad? or does the actual bacteria in your mouth make it a bit more slim to happen?

I know this guy, and we keep in touch here and there, and we had the talk about being clean before we did anything, so I trust him, but I'm just curious to know more about this, cause I think I do want to play more with this guy, but "just to be safe" I don't want to jump into anything without proper knowledge.

You SHOULD never have oral-sex if either of you have FRESHLY bleeding
gums.

If the guy you are blowing has HIV or HEP C , the chances of infection rise dramaticaly .

If you are still wanting to do it then please use a condom , or if you both
want to make things a bit more serious why not get tested together ?

Either way i wish you well .

Your gums really shouldn't be bleeding that easily. Have you talked to your dentist or your primary doctor? Do you have a history of periodontal disease?

But to echo what medic said, any open sores, wounds in one's mouth makes oral off-the-table. Seeing as you're prone to bleeding just by washing your face, I would recommend avoiding performing oral sex until you speak to a physician. I also don't recommend brushing one's teeth prior to oral sex. I'd rather have stinky breath than some blood-borne illness.

Do you smoke? Are you under a lot of stress? I developed an early stage of gingivitis due to my smoking/stress/coffee habits last year. Went to my dentist and she gave me this medicated toothpaste and rinser, it stoped after a few weeks of using it (plus it helped me stop smoking)

I don't smoke, but I am under a lot of personal stress. I don't have the insurance to get it taken care of, but I am getting help to fix it soon.

Adding to others possible suggestions above, sometimes periodontal (gum) disease can be traced back to Diabetes. Something as simple as sore or red gums even! This is not to say this is the problem of which you speak, but just to have you consider all possibilities.

When's the last time you had your teeth cleaned?
If it's been a long time I strongly suggest you have it done soon.
Also, if it HAS been a long time, do yourself a HUGE favor and ask to be "gassed" so you don't suffer like a bastard....... I guarantee the cost for the gas is money well spent!
