I think I asked this a long time ago, but didn't get too much of a response. I'm in my early 60's and like a lot of guys my age, I'm having ED issues. I see a lot of ads for ED pills, but I'm very reluctant to spend the money, just to see if they work and or how well they work. In the past I have been using Papavrine injections, but now i'm looking for something a little less invasive. Any advice?

Cialis stays in the body for 24-36 hours so it is more adaptable and better for spur of the moment sex, Viagra has a 4-6 hour window so sex needs to be more planned out! And ouch you're a brave man to go jabbing at his cock with a needle!

Giving yourself a shot, is giving yourself a shot . . . . . doesn't make any difference where the needle goes in.

As your physician may have mentioned, there's a difference between the oral ED meds and the injectables.

Oral ED meds like Viagra and Cialis work better for men who can obtain an erection but who are not able to get completely erect or who are not able to maintain their erection during sex. For this reason, it tends to work better in men who don't have vascular disease or an underlying medical condition that makes it difficult to obtain an erection.

The injectables are more effective for men who have trouble obtaining an erection. These drugs act upon receptors that dilate blood vessels in the penis and are more useful in cases where there is underlying vascular or nerve damage that prevents the penis from getting erect.

The question as to whether the oral meds will work for you depends on whether you can get an erection. The oral meds will help maintain that erection for a longer period of time. The injectables are preferred if you're unable to get an erection on your own.

Back in the day, my lifestyle demanded that I get and maintain a (constant) erection for long periods of time, 2-3 hours without going soft. This is where the injectable worked very well. I have tried prescription drugs, but the side effects were just too overwhelming and any sexual activity was unpleasant. My lifestyle has since changed and I no longer need the Papaverine. I have no problem getting an erection, I just can't maintain it longer than a few minutes, (lol, without constant attention) Now, several years ago, I started taking an "all herbal" supplement, which worked very well (to my satisfaction) and lasted at least a couple of days, without any adverse effects. However, that particular supplement is no longer available, or at least I can't find it anymore, maybe it's been rebranded. btw, I can name that supplement and it's distributor (if it's allowed, on here)

So My question still remains . . . . Any advice on a replacement for this herbal supplement, that's no longer on the market? I see ad's all the time, for "ED Pills", but which ones would this forum recommend? (if any) i.e. The top ten?? I have tried searching for these, but the ad's all "boast" the same thing. Thanks for the advice.

Wouldn't this imply that your "plumbing is good" so therefore it's your brain at fault?

I'm retired now and in my mid-60's. It is pretty easy for me to get hard, but if my mind wonders (away from the fantasy or porn) then it goes soft pretty quick. That is pretty handy when i wake up at night with a boner and need to pee. By the time i walk to the kitchen, get a sip of water, and head to the bathroom, my dick is pretty bendable by then. It might be an age thing. I can remember years ago that after climaxing that my dick would slowly go soft...it was a few minutes (or at least a couple...I can't remember) that my dick was hard enough I would need to keep it straight when putting underwear and pants back on. But these days once I shoot my load it's back down in about 30 seconds or maybe less.

Although in the last couple of years I've lost nearly 80 lbs and after the first 40 I noticed that my libido went up. And now after nearly 80 lbs, I'm pretty sure I get harder than I have been able to get for a few years. I'm still 25 lbs overweight.

You might get the book, "The Penis Book: A Doctor's Complete Guide to the Penis: From Size to Function and Everything in Between", on Amazon. A few years ago, I got the audio book version for free. I signed up for the Audible Book club for a month trial, then cancelled. The book was might to keep. It's more like a booklet I assume because it didn't seem all that long listening to the audio version. Lots of good info on why your dick works the way it does, what the pills and penis injections do it get it to work, etc.

I am not sure which supplement you used, and I would like to know the name of it so I can look for it myself.

I have personally found several generic over the counter supplements to be quite effective. The most effective ones for me personally have been propionyl l carnitine and acetyl l carnitine taken together on an empty stomach. For me personally they produce a very strong long lasting erection and even "morning wood." In addition to them, I have also found L-Citrulline and Pine Bark Extract to be very helpful, but not without taking the first two I mentioned. Citrulline should also be taken on an empty stomach, and NOT at the same time you take either of the carnitine supplements. Take them separately. In addition, eating foods high in nitrates is helpful, such as arugula salads, raw beets, etc. Other things that I *think* might be helpful for the veins and ultimately help with erections are pomegranate supplements and grape seed extract supplements. I have tried Cialis in the past and found it to be quite helpful, but surprisingly, the carnitine supplements I mentioned already did just as good of a job for me, and they are a lot cheaper. There are actual medical studies on the carnitine supplements that say they are as effective as viagra, but it has to be those two particular carnitine supplements taken together. Not just any carnitine supplements. There is some concern about carnitine supplements and it has been suggested that they should be taken with antioxidants found in wine grapes, so I personally take them with grape seed extract capsules. I also drink dark red wines like Merlot when I eat my evening meal. Not much wine. Just one small glass per day. Good luck!

Oh, I remember the nights when I would get such strong morning wood that it was impossible to take a pee without making quite a mess if I didn't wait long enough for my erection to fade. It fades a lot quicker the older I get. I remember back then I was upset about the mess and the inconvenience of having a boner that would not go down. Now I long for those days. And back then I wasn't taking any supplements or pills of any kind.

The end results here, at least for me, is to get and maintain an erection without worrying about it. While there are a variety of drugs on the market to help get and maintain, most of these are a "Hit And A Miss" . . . maybe they'll work, maybe they won't. If you have a partner that's expecting one thing and you can't deliver on that, then you better hope that your partner is understanding. Taking oral drugs is all well and fine . . . . if that's what works for you, but for others, they may not work at all. There was several years where I couldn't get the injectable drug Papaverine and that was why I asked you guys what you were using. However, things have changed for the better, for me now. I now have a new prescription for the Papaverine and it works perfectly, without any side effects . . . providing it's administered properly. and sticking a tiny needle in my dick is no different than giving myself a B-12 shot in the leg, every two weeks. A shot, is a shot regardless of where it's injected. For those of you that aren't familiar with this drug, just google it.
