Hey everyone, 18 year old here. I'm very thin, to the point where you can see my rib cage fairly clearly. I eat good amounts, so I'm not anorexic or anything. But here's my problem - I'm almost constantly bloated. Even after eating something tiny. Not to mention that my chest practically caves in the centre (not as much as it used to, but still a fair bit). My bloated belly is awful, I've tried exercise but it leaves big stretch stretch marks right across it. It's so embarassing that I haven't been to a public pool in years. The worst thing though really is the big cave in my chest. What's wrong with me?

Can you post a picture?

Not a lot to go on there. Could be nothing, could be something. How tall are you? How would you define your bone structure? If you are small boned and tall/lanky type, just might be how you are ‘made’. You have somewhere between 10-20 feet of intestines to fit in there. You could also have gluten intolerance or some other type of food intolerance. Do you have bouts of diarrhea/constipation? MIGHT (emphasis on might) be some sort of bowel disease. Without a proper medical history, it is very difficult to say.
As for your chest, it sounds as though it is simply how your body is made (pectus excavatum I think the exact term is). Do you have any difficulty breathing? Any acid reflux? Any chest pains while exercising? If you don’t have any of these signs/symptoms, chances are that there is noting wrong. But, as mentioned, without a proper history and physical exam, it is very difficult to say.

From what you've said I'd agree with hyperion and say that the indented chest is probably PECTUS EXCAVATUM the bloating may be a secondary problem caused by some sort of consriction depending on the degree of the chest indent. You'd need to have a Dr. check you out to properly find out what the problem might be. Do a Youtube search for pectus excavatum to see if what the various examples fit what you have. Only a Dr. can really check and likely find out the cause of your bloating might be. I'd definately recommend seeing a Dr. If you have pectus excavatum there are sugical proceedures but they are somewhat drastic, putting a steel bar in your chest to straighten the indentation, the bar is left in place for about 5 years and then removed. It's called the Nuss proceedure. Again see a Dr. and get yourself checked out properly.

Go to the doctor.

Contant bloating could be a sign of long-term infection with parasites (like giardia), but it is more likely something else. I would go to the doctor and get a full health check up, blood tests, stool tests and everything, and fuly explain your symptoms to him/her.

A doctor seems to be the only option. You may have an intolerance to gluten or lactose.

Get tested for food intolerances. It's a test done on your blood (will have to be sent away to a lab) which looks at immune reactions to what you eat... often these reactions are not immediately, but happen days after eating whatever it is your body is intolerant to... yeast, or eggs, etc, etc,... Made my life much better.
