This is more of a health & well being topic, but I wanted a broader response.

Right!

From all the chemicals to which I have been exposed, the smoking, and the drinking, I have a less than stellar complexion.

Over the counter products don't work at all.

I was considering a laser peel or microdermabrasion to refinish the skin.

Has anyone had either? If so, what have been the results?

Try this. I use it, it's great. The Oxygen Detoxifying Masque.

I agree, I alson use it...great products

Hold on tho....Do you have any idea what feed back your going to get on a gay
forum inquiring about facials

First of all, quit smoking if you haven't already. Nicotine can constrict your blood vessels, bringing less blood to your skin and making you look grayer in the face. And smoking of course adversely affects your ability to bring oxygen to your tissues.

I met a guy 10 years younger than me the other day who has been smoking for 20 years and he looks terrible. I could easily pass for his younger brother.

The other thing to be careful of while you are still young is SUN exposure. Wear sunblock, wear sunblock, wear sunblock. Its the sun that ages our skin.

i just steam my face with eukalyptus leaves in boiling water...

put a towel over your head and lean over the steamy water...

its great if you have congested lungs as well

Yeh, smoking is on its way out for me. The fascists in the area have made pretty damn sure I can't have a pint and a smoke at the same time.

I've tried the $80 facial masks, trips to the salon, etc. But I've never had the results I want. Oh, well.

I don't mind wearing a little make-up here and there when I go out, but I can't wear any at work. Well, I don't want to.

But, then again, I might be making a mountain out of a mole hill. I do tend to dwell on small insignificant things.

But thanks for the replies ladies! ;)

You need to use whatever it is that David Hasselhoff uses.

Have you seen his skin? Like, wow! ;)

I can't really recommend any quick fix solution, but I would advise a total skin care regime...I know you said that over the counter stuff doesn't work, but these things take quite a while, and maybe because you are so used to seeing yourself, you notice no difference. But the main thing is to consistently follow a proper skin care routine and watch the diet. This will make things much more pleasant in the long-run as well. I have quite a hectic skin routine which I only follow once a day although they say twice. AND, these products work (well, for me anyway) like nothing else on earth. I use the complete Estee Lauder range (typically for women, but they say it's unisex):

Splash away cleanser
So clean toner
Advanced night repair
Idealist skin refinisher
Daywear plus (has a built in SPF 15 and is so light and non-oily!)
Advanced night repair eyes
Daywear plus for eyes (also has SPF 15)

(this everyday!!! It's quite a bother, but if I don't do it, no one else will :-))

Also use the Idealist Hydra-D thermal scrub once a week, and the regular mask/scrub once a week.

You can't put too much work into your skin - and sometimes it really is too late with skin, so proper care is vital.

Also, it's the largest organ in the body and deserves some respect :-)

When you're ready get some nicotine patches 21mg, be sure you're committed to quitting, then start a thread here and go for it.

We'll support you for as long as it takes. ..|
