  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Farwell, Marshal Field's. It's been fun.

Let's just wait for the margin call... we'll see then. ;)

actually, I'm sure macy's has done a great deal of reserach on this and that the numbers back up their decisions

Apparently the Philadelphia area will be loosing it's Strawbridge's (formerly Strawbridge & Clothier) stores also since they're owned by federated. I dont know what they'll do with the Strawbridges in cente city Philly as the old Wanamaker building already houses a Macy's. I just hope they dont close the Crystal Tea room or discontinue the Christmas Light Show (yes that's right, a major national chain using the word Christmas what has this world come to?).

Kinda like someone else mentioned . . .

Marshall Field was a REAL person. He made his name in retail by provided good quality merchandise with top-shelf service.

I guess it's a little like Harrod's in London being owned by foreign owners.

I have nothing against Macy's (they put on one helluva parade once a year), but it IS sad to see the reduction in competition in retail as it has happened in so many other segments of the economy.

Here in Austin, we have one mall with three Dillard's and the other store, a JCPenney, just closed. So, the Highland Mall might as well just be called the Dillard Mall.

Sigh.
