im not that fat i guess. im about 230 and about 5'9. i need to lose about 70. whats the fastest way (without using meth and other crazy things) and safest way i can do that? i mean like with diet and excercise? im one of those guys who likes instruction and thats one of the reasons im fat...cos no one is barking down my throat to get fit. ahh cruell life...lol
 
dude,just change the way your eating and go out and walk/run for an hour everyday!...as for direction on having to be told to lose weight,i was the sameway,but you know what, you really gotta do it if you really want it! and if you need a buddy to talk to about your weight..i'm here dude! :)
 
Low carb diet and 1/2 to 1 hour of exercise a day. The hard part is keeping it off and keeping up with the exercise after you have lost the weight. I lost 60 lbs 2 years ago and I have let about 30 lbs slip back on and I know what I have to do to keep it off but just can't find the motivation.
 
instead of eatting 2-3 big meals a day, cut them to around 5-6 small meals. go for walks, if your going someplace close by, walk instead of drive. cut out soda, drink lots of water. try getting a workout buddy, he/she can encourage you to workout/exercise.
 
All great advice, i would add to drink plenty of water everyday. Only water!

After quitting smoking three years ago I put on 35 pounds so easy. Now I must start to loose it because I feel really self conscious as the summer begins. Could use support. Before joining a gym that I know I'll stop going to, I'm going to try walking / running every day. Let's keep each other posted on our progress. Good luck to all...
 
A very good option for you is to work with a trainer for a few weeks to develop a workout plan. Having a plan with reasonable goals will make a big difference if you have not worked out before.

Based upon your description of being 230 lbs and 5'9", you'll want to start with diet modification and cardio. As you get into good cardio shape, you'll want to add weights to begin reshaping your body from a more pear-shaped appearance into a more masculine V-shaped torso.

In this forum, there are some posts from other guys that have done some pretty amazing changes to their body as they have trimmed the fat and got into shape. It's something you can do and summer vacation away from school is a good time to get started.
 
I was about 230lbs a year ago---that was down from my starting weight of 250lb-----and I am now down to 180 give or take. I started walking, just for one mile to start, because my heart could not take much more than that---and just increased every week til I was walking six mile at a time. I then started swimming again. You just have to find something that you like and stick with it.

I think this is KEY! I think people fail at exercise b/c they do stuff they don't like. It doesn't have to be running or walking. It can be swimming, jump roping, dancing, skipping, martial arts, etc etc. The key is to enjoy doing it so that you keep coming back to it.
 
There are things like soda that you can cut out and you will lose weight just from doing that. I learned that on The Biggest Loser ;-)


I agree about keeping the weight off being hard. I lost 25 and gained it all back because I stopped exercising


My impression is that people are varying their workouts because it keeps the muscles guessing and they arent saying "he is walking again for 30 minutes"

im on week 3 and im doin prettty good...im 225 and i feel better. been doing 30 minutes of cardio (machine) every 3 days then i rest a day then do three more...so six days a week.... I really think the soda thing is crazy, how much of it we drink...i havent had soda in 4 weeks and i feel better and less full when i eat...and my diets changed considerably. i eat breakfast now which i never did, but now i get why i binged all the time...cos i was hungry from breakfast! so yeah im on the right track...i may post a pic in a couple of months when im a hunk again....lol
