For my 101 post it seemed fitting that I do this post. My favorite live album is.
101 - Depeche Mode This was the concert for the masses done in Pasadena California, I would have loved to have been there. Looked like a fun time, since I wasen't there I will just stick to the DVD and pretend I was one of the Kids on the Buss. Who were all lucky enough to have experienced such an awsome event.

What are your favorites?:band::band::band:

Better Than Ezra Live at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
I always have a lot of fun listening to it.

Vertical Horizon's Live Stages done at Ziggy's in Winston Salem, NC

Normally I don't like Live albums, but I love Alive by Daft Punk. Instead of just trudging through songs they completely mashed them up and played close to thirty songs non stop. That's one live show I would have loved to be at.

I too am not a lover of live album, and usually buy artists' studio albums, but my favourite live album that i actually do own is Evanescence's 'Anywhere But Home.'

Even though her voice is not not her best in some of the songs, the CD does have some amazings covers and songs full of raw emotion and passion.

I do love my Amy Lee! :D

No order.

Gary Numan - Dream Corrosion

The sound of a pop musician who spent roughly the last decade not knowing what the hell he was going to do next suddenly finding his way. The fact that he recorded it while on tour supporting his absolute worst album makes it even more surprising.

Peter Gabriel - Plays Live
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

These two prove that sometimes, you CAN remove the visuals from art rock and still have something very worthwhile.

Louis Prima and Keely Smith - Live from Las Vegas

Everything positive you know about "a Vegas show". A few negatives, too, but done so well, you won't care.

Joe Mac and Eman - One Too Many

If you see enough live shows, you'll eventually catch one that somehow transcends the norm. The band may be playing the same old notes, but somehow, it moves a step beyond. This is what it sounds like. One of the few positive things to come out of the New Kids on the Block.

Herbie Hancock - Flood

OK, his intro to "Butterfly" was probably tired even back when it was uttered in 1975. ("This one's for the ladies.") But it's amazing to hear his prime funk music in a live setting, and occasionally, even nudging beyond the studio recordings. The fact that it could even be done is amazing enough.

Prince - Sign o' the Times concert film, transfered to CD.

OK, so it's fake. He filmed some concerts, came back home, decided he didn't like the visuals and/or the sound, and so reassembled the set and had his band perform "live" in front of nobody in Paisley Park, adding in crowd shots later. You'd never know it.

Guns N' Roses - Live Era 86-99
Patti LaBelle - Live! One Night Only

Both kickass live recordings!

Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads - Tribute: He only had 1 guitar player for the album, but Randy filled up the sound as though there was more than 1.

Sarah Brightman - The Harem World Tour: Although listening to the album is not the same as going to the concert, I went to this tour twice, and it was simply amazing. The voice, effects, and stage production. You really have to see it to know it's really more than just a concert but she sounds great on the album.

Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley: Her voice is wonderful on this album, and seems to almost capture her soul.

>>>And all four Peel Sessions i've heard so far - Carcass, Melt Banana, Shonen Knife, and Bolt Thrower.

Keep going.

David Bowie...David Live (1975)

Only because it sounds like a complete trainwreck...He (along with his band) were at this point excercising a diet of coccaine, peppers, and milk...not to mention he didnt tell the musicians he wasnt paying them fo the live album until 15 minutes before the show started... and its all pretty evident in the performance.

Also you totally hear hes fucking tired of singing the ziggy and aladdin sane stuff which is not out of the realm of truth because only mere weeks after the concert was recorded he went in the studio to record his philly soul masterpeice "Young Americans" which was a total about face from his previous records.

Nonetheless its a fascinating record to listen to and the songs arent half bad.

If you want more solid live albums from him The ziggy stardust soundtrack and any of the Station to Station/Isolar Tour I bootlegs are a good place to start. :)

I'm also wondering about Linkin Park, since they're releasing another live album. From the commercials it sounds kinda blah.

seems like now and days live albums are just as perfect as studio recordings...which makes them all kinda BLAH :(

Johnny Cash: At Folsom Prison. It's a classic for a reason. He sounded amazing live! :D
