You've picked what is arguably my favourite band.
Back when I was about 18 to about 21, I pretty much lived R.E.M., they were everything to me. (I'm probably massively overstating that, but that was my perception on remembering it)
I guess 18-21 was my 'emo' phase.
A favourite song is VERY difficult. Looking at their discography....
I'd say my faves are (in order of their year of release)
Losing My Religion
Man on the Moon
The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite
What's The Frequency, Kenneth?
Bang and Blame
Strange Currencies
E-Bow The Letter
(I am bound to be questioning you, WHY are some more of these songs not on your main list?)
But if I HAD to pick a favourite....
Just re-listened to a few of them, and it's what I suspected....
Strange Currencies
True story: The first time I ever listened to that song, I HATED it.
That changed to like, and then almost to love, within about a month or two I'd say.
And for some totally unknown reason I can never explain, the last minute or so STILL moves me, and/or sends tingles way down my neck, even 20 years on.
