I have been fighting for years to get some surgeries. My doctor refused to do them unless I could get my A1C down to at least an 8. Best I was able to do was 8.6.

Skip ahead a couple of years and I am still trying to get my A1C down and fighting to get the surgeries and I am told my doctor retired about two years ago. My new doctor is more than willing to give me the first two surgeries.

Who the hell have I been arguing with for two years and why didn't they ever tell me I had a new doctor? I have a feeling the office kept putting me off because they were so behind from being closed for 18 months. Still would have been nice to be told so I could meet the new doctor.

Do you ever feel you get the runaround by your medical people?

Thankfully, my GP was caring and attentive, although her staff was a bit daft.

And to Paul's comment, most of my doctors' staffs have tried to push nurses or physician's assists when possible, which is purely a financial slant. If you'll take that 2nd level care, you'd be relegated to it. I usually decline.

Sorry you've had the delays, and hope your plan avails improved health. I never stopped seeing my doctor during the pandemic, in person, and never have done a video visit.

Our doctor will see us at any time for any thing or if he is booked we always have the ability for a same day appointment with the nurse practitioner on the health team and if after hours, at the after-hours clinic that they staff on rotation.

But that is because we have universal health care and very good primary care aimed at avoiding emergency care.

As far as specialties go, like surgery, once we have a referral from the Family doc, depending on urgency and results of preliminary testing, it can be a week to several weeks to get an appointment now because of COVID and the back-up of cases.

Yes.

I think the doctors, they have many other patients to attend to.

They may think that my condition is not as serious as the conditions from other patients.

I get the runaround from my insurance.

For the most part I really like my whole medical group of people. At this point I think they are just so backed up from being closed for so long they are letting things slip, but they are great when you are there.

All of my doctors, but my general doctor and mental health doctor was closed for a year and a half at least unless an emergency. Even then it was by phone or Zoom only until a few months ago.

I have got lucky. After falling thru the cracks for a few years I was contacted by my current insurance and they enrolled me in their "Special Needs Plan" for disabled people. Turns out I was suppose to be offed it years before, but wasn't. Now I have fairly great insurance and rarely have to wait for them to do their part.

I still wish we had Medicare for All though.

^ I do suspect though that they would be happier knowing that before surgery, you had made all the right lifestyle changes to reduce AC levels...hopefully you are able to demonstrate to them that you are prepared to be the one to do all the really heavy lifting here?

I am still working on it, but that is the thing. My retired doctor wanted to do what will now be surgeries 3 and 4 first. For those my A1C needs to be lower. Then he wanted to do what will now be surgeries 1 and 2.

My new doctor says he will do it the other way because his way, surgeries 1 and 2, the A1C doesn't matter and if my body takes to the surgeries they can help me lower my A1C/blood sugar as well as help me lose weight in general.

These are all foot surgeries. Because the retired doctor made me wait I can now barely walk. The hope is after the surgery next week I can get out and walk so I can get the other two surgeries.

Not really the run around just kind of general stupidity! I was once at my Dr. and they asked me if I wanted to pay the copay before or after the visit I said after well this snotty bitch they had working there was like "Federal law requires you to pay it before" I blatantly asked her after she told me this "Well why the hell did you ask me when I wanted to pay it?" And I did this in an office full of people *zero fucks given! Also when trying to make a physical appointment it seems they are always making appointments 6 months out! I mean what else are they doing? Now the insurance yeah I get the run around I think if i get a referral I can get my flu shot at my drs office but thats a hassle! I have to get damn referrals for the dermatologist (who is a scammer in herself!) Looks at my damn face for a hot 5 minutes and rapes me for $105 Pulmonologist too!

So first one done. Now my foot is hating me, but I was told in a few days I will be doing great.

^ Good Luck and hope you feel better soon. Good to hear 1 down. It's tough at the beginning but gets better quickly. (*8*)
