so, this isnt really a question or a problem. i just thought id share, maybe it helps somebody.
(to be perfectly honest, im just really excited that i finally got rid of it and want to talk about it, but its not really a subject one brings up with friends, so...)

i had a fungal infection between my toes for a long time, i think its called "athlete's foot" in english. i didnt do anything about it for way too long, partly because i was just too lazy, partly because i didnt like to think about it (bad reason, i know), partly because it didnt really affect me so much, aside from the occasional itching. but because i ignored it, it got worse and worse, so about three months ago, i finally decided that i need to do something about it.

some people on the web swear on foot-baths with saltwater, so i tried that for a month, but it didnt do anything for me. what ended up doing the job was: two footbaths a day, one with black tea (6 tea-bags in 1 liter of water) and one with vinegar (25% vinegar, 75% water). i also slept with slices of garlic between the toes that were afflicted the most. after two weeks, things had improved significantly, and i stopped with the garlic, but kept doing the foot-baths. it took a while for the last signs of the infection to disappear, but now finally my feet are healthy again.

the black tea stained my toe-nails, though. they are disgustingly brown now. but whatever, its just the colour, it doesnt mean theyre unhealthy, and who sees my toes anyway during autumn.

so... hope this might help out some folks here, i hear this kind of infection is quite common.

Glad you're okay. The brew you describe makes sense - thanks for the info - but I'd guess it's slower than other remedies.

I suggest tea tree oil next time -- directly applied when there's an infection. It's fairly quick to work. For prevention, you can wash with tea tree oil soap or other anti-fungal soap (check out hand-washing soaps sold for medical settings). The pure oil is quite potent and while it would help with other fungal problems, you'll probably want to be cautious with the more sensitive parts of your body.

Tea tree oil is great. I've found it works well after new piercings, which, genitally are sensitive,

i wanted to use stuff i could buy in the super market, because im super broke these days. i read garlic has similar effects as tea tree oil, even if the smell is less plesant.

Something I'd like to throw in to remember is, let your feet air out. Wearing sweaty socks in warm shoes is a petri dish for that stuff to grow in, and if possible, wash your shoes every once in a while. There are also powders you can put in your shoes to help detour that stuff from growing in your shoes.

Warm, dark, and moist is prime realestate for fungi.

also I never walk barefoot at my gym or in the shower, etc---always wear my plastic Adidas--never had a problem.

My teen cousin is struggling with the same problem and has been doing several laser treatments for athlete's foot. (never heard of sucj treatments) I suggested my uncle to buy him athletic socks that will keep his feet dry because regular cotton socks hold in sweat, especially since he plays basketball from sunrise to sunset. My uncle cheaped out on paying $20 for a pair of sports socks. #-o So I told him have fun paying hundreds of dollars for laser treatments and $85 on antibiotic lotion every time fungal infection will come back.
