Finally Target! - Now Please Air It

Target is coming to Canada, converting about two-thirds of our 'Zellers' stores to 'Target' outlets. Their anti-gay crap won't fly up here and, referring to the Wal-Mart article, neither will that 'freedom of religion' crap.

I have a hard time seeing a commercial that is nearly 2 minutes long air on television. Commercials go for about 3-4 minutes, so I can't really see them giving up 2 minutes of that time for one commercial. I could be wrong though.

I hope they air it.

Definitely not a potential commercial at nearly 2 minutes. Probably a promotional piece they use in sponsoring events, or specifically for YouTube. All the others posted to their account on YouTube are 30 second spots.

This gay-accepting feel-good spot will never see TV time. But they probably never intended it would.

Judging the comments posted on YouTube, the "gays" ain't buying it!

SMDH #-o

Honestly I don't care what they air on TV. Anything on or about TV is a steaming pile anyway, far as I'm concerned! Heterosexualized, fat-cat controlled, formulaic crap if you ask me - every damn network.

Now, where you will probably see this ad (as we just have thanks to metta's sharing it with us), is on the internet , since the entertainment market is entirely moving here, anyway. So I don't agree that this will never air - even if it's a whopping 2 minutes or "too left" or liberal, or whatever. It's just not trying to snag TV-watching audiences! Those people are all drones to whom the networks already know how to advertise.

Welcome to the future, where it becomes much easier to find and advertise to exactly who companies think you are ;)

Yup, you got it!

I hate Target and it has nothing to do with their political affiliations. Their stores suck. They're overpriced and NEVER have what I go in for. Seriously, EVERY time I've gone to Target for something specific - say, a blue shirt...they will have shirts in every color except blue. If I go in for a specific movie or CD, they will be sold out of it or never have stocked it in the first place. I have, without exaggeration, never walked out of Target with the specific item I went in for. And on the rare occasion I do buy something there (having settled for something that wasn't what I wanted, of course), it always costs more than I could have bought it for at any other store.

So, they can give money to whichever anti-gay organizations they want because I refuse to shop there, anyway.

Thats kind of a funny commercial. Why don't they just say what they really mean. Something like "We dont care who the fuck you are. Just come to our store and spend your money"

Because not too long ago they made a huge donation to an anti-gay political campaign. When they caught heat for it, instead of apologizing or reversing the donation they stuck to their guns. Which makes a 2-minute commercial seem more like pandering and saving face than anything else.

Yet again, people read nothing but a headline. Target has never donated directly to an anti-gay political candidate (or any candidate, frankly) and have done more for their gay employees than basically any other US Corporation their size. They also are one of the largest sponsors of Twin Cities Pride and donate regularly to several pro-gay (adoption, rights, etc.) organizations. Like any large corporation, they donate to funds and causes that will help them minimize costs as a large business, which is why they donated to MN Forward, which in turn gave money to Tom Emmer.

If you don't like Target because they don't carry blue shirts (?), fine, whatever. But at least have a factual reason, because anti-gay they are not.

Understood. Target never donated $150,000 to anti-gay politician Tom Emmer. They donated to someone who donated to Tom Emmer. HUUUUGE difference.

Loosen up your panties girl, there is a brighter tomorrow. :?

FYI, it was more than one donation:

Target Continues To Make The Political Donations They Had Previously Apologized For Making

And target make the single largest contribution to Michele Bachmann

There's a little more perspective! When you make continuous donations to anti-gay endeavors does it matter if it's direct or indirect?

Whoops! We accidentally made several donations to homophobic scum bags. But we did it in a roundabout way so it's all good, no harm no foul!

They just didn't donate to only Tom Emmer (or donated to a third party that gave that money to his campaign which is just a sneaky dirty tactic)... but they also donated DIRECTLY to Michele Bachmann.

They did NOT! They wrote Michele a check which she took TO THE BANK and cashed. See? The BANK donated to Michele Bachmann. Totally different. ;)

Duh. Commercials are usually limited in length to no more than 30 seconds, with nothing longer than a minute (excluding infomercials). This is pretty much nothing more than a promo piece...No offense, but not all ads are meant for TV...

HAHAH ;) You got me there...

I guess the only way it was a direct donation was having a suitcase full of cash presenting it to her in her office... ummm... erhm... nevermind... that's a bribe. The lines are blurred. :D

Even in that case, it's the suitcase that gave her the money, not Target. Why are you trying so hard to implicate them when they're clearly innnocent? :?

as long as the corporation itself doesn't practice homophobic business practices, I can't bring myself to lose sleep over which politicians their executives donate their personal money to.

Was it personal money? I didn't see that notated in any of the articles I read, I was left with the impression that it was the company's money.
