If I don't 'use' Firefox for a few minutes (such as opening a thread and reading it through), it seems to take forever for the browser to 'look for' a URL when I click a new link. It doesn't matter which URL I want to go to, and it can take anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes to look for it and to begin opening it.

Stopping the browser and starting again doesn't help, nor does trying to open a different page. It's like Firefox goes to sleep and it takes time for it to wake up again.

I have the latest updates, but it's annoying having to wait so much for the browser to do something.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

When i leave the computer for a few hours my firefox freezes it does this on the other 2 computers too. I dont know why it does this

Go into your IP settings and disable (or uninstall) IPv6.

Okay, where do I find that?

My Firefox often freezes on Start-up. It's frustrating at times having to do the CTRL-ALT-Del thing several times just to get it to load.

i dont use firefox. i use opera. its the best. when you accidentally delete a tab(webpage) you wanted to keep, simply go to edit>undo, then its back up there, or just click the trash can on the top right side of the screen, and pull it out of there.

also recommend downloading fasterfox

it works well for speeding everything up without having to change everything manually ..|

The first thing to do is to make sure you're running the latest version which is 2.0.0.4 - go to Help - click on About and it'll tell you what version you have. The option to check for updates is also in the Help menu.

I did this - and the result I got was: Firefox/1.5.0.12

I then clicked on "Check for Updates" - and it tells me "No new updates are available"...and I thought I had things set so it normally TOLD me when there was a new update

Sorry if I'm saying something stupid here - but I'm so "non geek" its almost painful (most of the time I have actually got next to no idea what you tech savvy guys are talking about!).

technically it isn't an update for you but a new version. that's why the autoupdater didn't work. however they plan to dump the 1.x series soon, and at that time you will get an "update".
however you can simply "upgrade" manually by going to http://getfirefox.com and downloading the new version :)

or in firefox: history -> recently closed tabs. not much of a problem either.
