Firefox keeps updating the same version

Firefox has been acting very strange lately in that it keeps updating the latest version every time I open it, which means an even longer wait for the browser to open. It used to update every time I open the browser, now it still updates, but more sporadically.

At first I thought there might be something wrong with my computer, but right now I'm using a heavy duty public computer and the same thing is happening with Firefox here.

Has anyone else encountered this -- and does anyone know what to do about it?

Not really a complete fix, but can you disable the auto-check for updates off? It might help you just avoid (if not solve) the problem. In Firefox, Tools --> Options --> Advanced icon --> Update tab, uncheck all in "Automatically check for updates to:" section. The bottom section will gray out, though you could try setting it at "Ask me what I want to do" before disabling the top so if it doesn't observe the above settings at least it'll prompt.

I'm wondering if it is a fault in an update and it is now not realising it has been updated. I note that, on the mac at least, it wants me to upgrade to 2.0.0.7 If I do this I shouldn't be at all surprised if I get the same problem. Therefore I will not do so.

I am updated to the latest version, but I haven't been getting this problem.

Clooneyesque hasn't returned to post in this thread since first posting, but I'd recommend disabling the auto-update as per my earlier post and screenshot to at least stop the activity. You can always check for updates manually every once in a while with Help --> Check for Updates.

I have the Auto Update enabled - and it has only updated once for me that I can recall in the last week or so.

I've had about 3 updates, but in the last month - Not as often as you guys seem to be getting it..
It seems Firefox is going through some issues at the moment, in general.

Yeah, I disabled the auto-update . . . it's back to updating every time I open the browser!

Bizarre. That might imply it's not observing its own settings, so possibly can't write to any of its local setting files or registry keys. As noelie suggested, you can backup your profile aspects so your bookmarks, etc. are preserved and then reinstall. I'm running 2.0.0.7 without any of this strange behavior.
