Somehow my Firefox automatically downloaded a new version of itself, or I did it without realizing what I was doing. I prefer to blame the laptop. Anyways, now it seems that scrolling down pages is all choppy, not nice and smooth like it used to be. This new Firefox is version 3.1b3. Anyone have any ideas, or even if the two things are related?

See if this (or this, put a little differently) describes your problem or helps. Maybe the beta install defaulted some fresh settings? Is it still recognizing other settings, etc. from your previous profile? I guess I'm trying to determine if the problem is related specifically to your beta version, or would reoccur again if you installed the latest stable version again. I'm running 3.0.7 and haven't seen "choppy" scrolling.

Thank you so much. I will read those and try to fix the prob.

That is really strange that it installed a beta version. You can turn off auto-updates in FF by going to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Update, and un-checking the FF box; at least you could in v2. I still use that and Chrome depending on what I am doing.

This is really buggin me now. I have a new Macbook and I have no idea how or why it downloaded it. I don't even know where the downloads go on this computer. I knew my PC Windows pretty well, but this is all new to me. I don't know how to get to the control panel so I can see the downloads. I have some learnin to do.

k, makin some headway. i found the smooth scroll Keeland mentioned and I changed it but that didn't work. I'm not comfy adding lines to configurations tho. I wonder if I could uninstall and reinstall a new firefox.

WOW THANKS KEELAND! I just found my way in there and had a good look around! It says I downloaded a 3.1 beta the other day. Still choppy scrolling tho.

I just did the add on, lemme wander around and see if it works. it's odd that the only site i was havin probs with is JUB. Unfortunately I spend a lot of time here.

what exactly is the beta? i moved it to the trash, but it's too late i think. it's to the point where i cant even peruse the threads on jub on this laptop, it's too annoying. im getting sea sick! thanks for your patience! i did learn too!

Heres how i solved this problemo......i deleted firefox all together. i am going to download a new version and not let it update itself all willy nilly. really nice of everyone to help me out tho.

Just a simple question from the Peanut Gallery:

What's the difference between Firefox and Safari?

I've been using Safari since I got my OSX machine 3 years ago and have yet to have a problem. All content comes through just dandy and have only once crashed.

Until my Rocket Scientist buddy downloaded some Windows thingie I couldn't see most videos, but since then, I can see it all and it works just fine.

My Partner, who is the most tech-inept person I know (this is a man who screwed up his cellphone so bad even THEIR tech support got so fed up they just sent him a new phone!) has yet to screw up the Mac.

What makes Firefox better? Just asking.

Oh. Thanks for the information. :D

I guess I am one of those guys that belongs to the 'if it's not broken, why fix it' category.

If something pops up I want to ignore, I just ignore it. :D I'm probably running pretty much default-everything; I just don't take the time to 'customize' everything.

I'm just happy when everything works.

There is something to be said for your outlook Yooper. I don't know why I am always futzin around with things. I called the apple number yesterday, they couldn't have been nicer. The guy kinda flirted with me. He asked me does it do that in Safari, i said no, he said well then use Safari! Then he explained how to fix the problem I was having. It's all better now. If I'd done what you do I would have avoided all that drama.
