Today my computer screwed up and all my passwords were deleted from firefox. It isn't really a problem because I know them (apart from my JUB one which I have just changed) but now firefox won't remember them for me. It pops up asking me if it wants me to remember them but when I press 'remember' it is a total bitch and doesn't save them. the other buttons work (to stop asking and to not save) but i don't want those buttons. i want to remember my passwords. It is really pissing me off because i have logged out and in about fifty times to try and get it to save them but it won't.

:mad::mad::mad: help anyone? :cry:

Another think I have noticed is that FF does not save tabs of last session unless it crashes and goes into recovery mode. I have the appropriate flag set but it still doesn't do it. And cookies are not stored either. I have the current updates all installed and have restarted the computer as well.
IE has this situation handled. I can always get my tabs back from the last browsing session.
Annoying to say the least....

I know you said the appropriate flag is set for your tab problem (and see if this applies), so I assume you're savvy enough to check this stuff out for your cookies issues, but you never know, so just in case - maybe something will help you or another user:

For the cookie thing, just confirm Tools --> Options --> Privacy header button, that "Accept cookies from sites" is checked and "Exceptions" does not contain the sites you want to save cookies for, that "Accept third party cookies" is checked, "Keep until they expire", and you can even use "Show cookies" to see what Firefox thinks are its cookies (try it before and after a Firefox restart). Also, make sure the "Clear history when Firefox closes" is unchecked, as that can eliminate your cookies on each restart. Make sure you're not running any security software that can interfere with cookies as well.

Also, you can check the actual place on your drive that your cookies should be stored and see that the file is getting written to and its date/time of last access. That file should be in C:\Documents and Settings\[YourUsername]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxx.default (where xxxx is some random string) - look for cookies.sqlite.

The issue fixed itself, then broke again and fixed itself again. It seems to be okay now.

I started a private browsing session and FF assured me it would save my current tabs. IT DIDN'T - ALL HISTORY DELETED ASUAL. THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE. I AM GETTING RID OF FF. IT IS GONE OFF MY SYSTEM,:grrr:

No need to shout. Did you read through my post? I took some time to research the issue for you and type out instructions for the things you can confirm. You're welcome, by the way! The link I linked to in the first paragraph specifically mentions "Make sure that you do not start Firefox in Private Browsing mode". Try running in regular, non-private browsing mode.

Cgymike, see also this from Mozilla for more. You can update your workflow to take yourself out of private mode before you exit, or abandon it entirely. I think your aims are contrary - you want private browsing mode, but you're upset it won't remember tabs. What do you expect? :) I mean, even if Firefox doesn't point out that tab memory will be cleared, you should check the settings I originally suggested, and if it's clearing all sorts of stuff, it's reasonable that tab memory would be included there. Maybe it's a bug in some peoples' view but not mine!

By the way, the last two paragraphs of my post were helping you on your cookie issues but I'm not sure you even tried those fixes, and instead focused on tabs. Give those a whirl for at least your cookies issue. If you come to this forum for help, you should be prepared to follow the links providing the tips and information and actually read the steps that people give you. :)

Why dont you just use Internet Explorer 8 and you wont have any of those problems ever again. I promise.

The problem is that these other funny web browsers were just not designed to be used with windows so you cant really complain if they are dysfunctional at times.

They are free and at the end of the day, you only get what you pay for, so you probably wont get any support for your problems either.

So I will leave you with a :D big grin and a :wave: wave while sorting out the mess that inferior software has caused you.
