For me it's the ending of Thelma and Louise. It was one of those rare endings that conjured up a lot of conflicting emotions and most importantly it was a film that made you love the characters. Few endings can make you sad and cry and then suddenly fill you up with an uplifting aura. I could tell you the ending but that would really spoil it!

What was the most powerful ending for you? It doesn't have to be a really sad one. It could be a really shocking twist or an ending that made you feel really happy!

Most recently, for me the end of "The Departed" was INSANE!!!!!

For those who haven't seen it I won't give anything away; for those who have,
oh wow wasn't that fucking crazy????

I never would've seen that end result coming!

Million Dollar Baby got me really hard. It made me cry. Also The Color Purple.

Granted i havent seen all the movies in the world but from what i have seen, The Color Purple hands down, now thats powerful film making. The end of that movie always gets me.

Also The Shawshank Redemption - Incredicble - From the stone goes through the picture to the very end its positively gripping. Also when he emerged from the water after crawling through the pipes.

SR is a movie you have to watch at least 3 times (thanks TNT) although i have watched it more than that. The first time for the shock value. The second time to look out for the clues you missed the first time around. And the third, just to sit back and enjoy the ride.

I guess Free Willy when the whale goes over the wall to freedom, that was powerful.

Children of men  don't even get me started, that was a powerful ending if i ever saw one.

I have heard alot of Dancer In The Dark and how its absolutely heartwrenching, i have yet to check it out though, but i will.

The Rapture i heard was good too.

Funny thing about The Departed i was watching it on a DVD and i was totally engrossed and then with 15 or so minutes left to go the DVD sticks and up till this day i don't know the ending, but i will watch it soon.

^ Tell that to the academy.

I just watched it last weekend xy. My mouth was like this  for the last 30 minutes!! A fucking fanTABulous movie!!!

I agree with Million Dollar Baby as mentioned above too.

Would it be totally cliche to say Titanic too?

A thread about spoilers... let's see...

Mmmm... I'd say "The Departed" has the worst ending I ever saw (once again, the original was better... Scorsese sucked, on that film)...

Usual Suspect was awsome, so was Se7en... Children of Men, wow... Planet of the Apes (the first one, of course) and Soylent Green (even if I hate this actor, now...)... and so many others...

... and Titanic of course... who could believe this boat was going to sink ?????

"The Departed" left me thinking, WTF I never saw that coming
Another one is of course "Sixth Sense" I never had a clue of what was going on with Bruce Willis's character. Btw, it's fun to wat it a second time knowing how it ends, looking for clues and then thinking how come I did not figure that out.

Likewise The Departed........didn't see it coming!
Million Dollar Baby...........it felt like being socked in the jaw. Brilliant!
Children of Men.
Brokeback Mountain........that final piece of camerawork from closet to window (hey, hadn't thought of it that way before!). Beautiful.

I think Brokeback Mountain had a powerful ending for me not because of the camera work but more because of the last line.

"Jack, I swear..."

I don't know. Something about the way he says it.
