Today I have some free time so I decided to clean out the fridge.
Nothing too major, a few salad dressings that had been expired for a couple of months, some sad wilted lettuce but no fungi lurking!

It reminded me of the time though when I was taking care of a friends dog while she was on vacation and I had to get in her refrigerator for something.

THE HORROR!! I don't know If it's because the door is closed so no one sees inside but ...WOW.....there was some food In there that was bought back when Clinton was prez I believe!
I almost called the local high school's Biology class...."bring your petri dishes cause there's a whole bunch of wrong going on over here!!"

Just wondering if other people let there food stuff turn into a science experiment!?!?

We're forgetful people, so we tend to forget about the stuff in the fridge. Until it starts to smell, anyway. Every once in a while we'll pull something out and play a game of "guess what this used to be" before shoving it into the compost bin.

My husband has actually smelled the milk to notice it was sour then proceed to put the lid back on and put it back on the shelf!
Guess what he had In his cereal the next morning?!?!

My girlfriend does that too. I try to keep the fridge cleaned out.

Food?

Whats that?

You've all just reminded me of a new life form I may be creating at the back of mine. I must serve it an eviction notice and hope it doesn't sue me.!oops!

Nah, I'm weird about that. I go through my fridge every couple of days, pitching out stuff that's been in there an unreasonable amount of time.

You should do that more often too! ;)

I do that all the time... well, not with milk, we go through that too fast, but I've done it with half-and-half. The thing is, if the sink's full of dishes or I don't have time to pour it out and rinse the sink and the carton, it's safer back in the fridge than if I took it out and just left it on the counter to stink up the whole kitchen.

It makes me think of that Sharpie Mini commercial where the boy puts the sour milk back in the fridge after taking the time to write "BAD" on the carton. It's a good idea for those of us who stumble around half-conscious in the mornings.

When I helped my parents move out of the house they'd been living in for forty years, I cleaned out my mother's spice cabinet and found some boxes -- not even jars -- that I know had been there since I was a kid.

Its not so much my fridge, but i did find a tin o beans out of date by three years once! Seriously!
